capitalism isn't perfect, but then no system is and it's by far the best we have found so far.
this is probably the part where you launch into some crazy rant which amounts to if it's isn't perfect we should just give up on it.
The problem is, the control of capital is being concentrated in fewer and fewer hands. Unless I'm mistaken, the rich have been getting richer to detriment of most others.
The next trick of our glorious banks will be to charge us a fee for using net bank!!! You are no longer customer, you are property!!!
And adjusted for population, Australia is still not the highest in the world, Norway was. The more important number is CLEARLY how many a country takes. Norway only takes 1000 odd a year, which makes us look good at 5000 but shit compared to 50,000.

And adjusted for population, Australia is still not the highest in the world, I think Denmark was. The more important number is CLEARLY how many a country takes. Denmark only takes 400 odd a year, which makes us look good at 5000 but shit compared to 50,000.
I didn't realize Denmark only had a population of 2 million?

If you look at the US Herbie, then I see a country where 50 million people are on food stamps in order to get by. Is this a function of the handout mentality or is it a symptom of capitalism whereby the rich get richer and a greater proportion of the population just struggle to make ends meet? It's hard to imagine that anybody except the privileged still view the US as an excellent working model of what societies should aspire towards.
They both contribute I imagine Elastic. Suspect I tend to look at the problems of the European Socialist Democracies more than the US problems though. As my general impressions would be that Oz is more likely to become like the former than the latter?
But anyway, the US population is about 20 times ours from memory. So the rough equivalent of 50 m there would be 2.5 m here. Aged pensioners aside, do you have any idea how many Australians are primarily reliant on welfare payments?
Just looking at these two articles, it wouldn't surprise me if our stats aren't too fundamentally different from the US:
It good that the nation can afford to have so many people on welfare I suppose. (Assuming we actually can.) But not good that we actually do have so many people on welfare perhaps?
A Professional Demographer to an amateur demographer:"negative natural increase will never outweigh the positive net migration"

We don't live in a strict capitalist system though. We have public education, healthcare and an array of social welfare. China is considered communist but there is a lot of capitalist activity going on over there. I don't think the terms are necessarily appropriate.

+1. We have a mix of crony capitalism and socialism. Very few earn their money honestly without government protections.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.
