The great and ongoing immigration debate; I'm a 55 yo Aussie with all 4 grandparents and both parents born here

I agree with some of what you say. Chinese and Indians probably are a bit harder working than your average Australian. Although immigrants are self-selected for being unusually hardworking and enterprising. There are probably plenty of lazy people in China and India, they just can't be bothered trying to immigrate.

But the main thing Australia can't grow her population forever. Mass immigration is going to end at some point, and whenever it does, whether at 50 million or 250 million its going to be painful because business seems to have grown dependent on it. I'm just hoping we can end it at 50 million rather than growing into the hundreds of millions.

And still nobody is prepared to offer a figure that they think is appropriate for immigration.
Would 1 million a year suit your needs Piggy.
Just think how much opportunity that would bring.
Just open the floodgates.
Can someone just shoot him? Now I want to be rich, to hire a hitman, he doesn't even deserve the honour of me doing it myself.

I want to hire the cheapest, nastiest hitman there is, who'll do it with a ball of string and a rusted hax saw blade.

Aside from that, I think the bulls want 50-100m ASAP.

Frank Castle is a liar and a criminal. He will often deliberately take people out of context and use straw man arguments.
Frank finally and unintentionally gives it up and admits he got where he is, primarily via dumb luck!

Property will be 50-70% off by 2016.

Its not even up for debate twit. The Gov will do what it pleases. Now, in 10 years, 20 years ... 50 years.

It's great living in a democracy where the government does what it likes.

Give these new recruits a couple of generations and they will be no different to any third generation Aussies now.
I genuinely don't know Elastic. Quite possibly so.

But I see a multi-generational welfare dependency having been introduced into the broader Australian society (with me having been a bit familiar with it from some readings and observations on Aboriginal society as long as 30 plus years ago - Which was before whites got so seriously whacked by it) - 'N Just look 'n shake me bloody head 'n say How the fuck did we let this shit happen to us?

I fucking LOATHE politicians. and I fucking LOATHE fucking Socialist politicians even MORE than fucking Capitalist politicians ... :re: :( :re:

As I said Herbie, today's generation has exactly the same genetic material as the previous ones so clearly any changes are the result of environmental factors. While I tend to agree that some forms of welfare can have unplanned outcomes with things like the baby bonus, child support etc the government clearly wants to grow the population. Remember Peter Costello asking couples to have three children, the third one for the country.
If we want to grow our population does it really matter that much who has the kids?
If wealthy people aren't having them then they need to subsidise those that choose to.
Maybe it's a better idea to keep the wealthy productive people working while those less inclined, do the breeding.
It's probably not the best outcome from a Darwinist perspective.
Only a rat can win a rat race.

... if immigration was reduced to a reasonable amount house prices would crash overnight too ...
Crap Moops - We've had our fucking bear arses kicked - IMO ... :re:

Get over it. Move on.

The 'dislikeable persons' can and will keep house prices high regardless - That's life in Oz - Get fucking over it - Unless you reckon YOU'VE got the clout ta change it? (I'm fuckin' sure I don't ... :re: )

So I'm talking immigration here - What might be good for the nation? (TOTALLY ignoring what might be the effect on house prices - Because fucking house prices are gunna be propped up regardless!)

I've come from a European ethnic background ...

Where we believe in value of being there for each other .family is very very important I've grown up with genuine love & just being there or each other whenever.
My parents didnt believe in letting their offspring fend for themselves when they turn 18 ..financially & socially ..no we were not Molly coddled but we were taught property throughout our adolescence.

If anything negative happened, we all chipped in to try & help in what way possible.
I've had a mum & dad who love & still love each other I think that's a very important life line to the offspring.

I do believe that the women who knew hard physical work like my mum are a dying breed in oz ..when she grew up ,she had to hand milk 3 cows before school, ..obviously dosent happen today in Oz....

I've been taught to apply myself when appropiate, but I don't certainly know the meaning of hard physical work..

I think family stability/instability can either make or break you.
Sometimes it's really the negatives in life that truly define what you are about...it will also test whether love is genuine ..or not..
Newjerk? can you try harder than dig up another person's blog. My first promo was with Billabong and my name in English is modified with a T, am Perth born but also lived in Sydney to make my $$
It's Absolutely Fabulous if it includes brilliant locations, & high calibre tenants..what more does one want? Understand the power of the two "P"" or be financially challenged
Even better when there is family who are property mad and one is born in some entitlements.....Understand that beautiful women are the exhibitionists we crave attention, whilst hot blooded men are the voyeurs ... A stunning woman can command and takes pleasure in being noticed. Seems not too many understand what it means to hold and own props and get threatened by those who do.
Banks are considered to be law abiding and & rather boring places yeah not true . A bank balance sheet will show capital is dwarfed by their liabilities this means when a portions of loans is falling its problems for the bank.

A child has wheels in it's brain. When it is given something of the broad category they call love, then these wheels come to life and turn, otherwise they remain frozen.
The next trick of our glorious banks will be to charge us a fee for using net bank!!!
You are no longer customer, you are property!!!

Yeah.

But when it involves parents like mine who knew the meaning of poverty, they've had to learn very tough lessons, my paternal grandparents had the decency to adopt an abandoned child despite them being poor. Not everyone has the guts to do that...
Poor or rich..., it's about values to help another with no if or but...

My mother didn't have it easy, she had an abusive father, her other 8 siblings were all abused. There was no domestic crises centre to run away to in those days..the only love she had was from her siblings & mother..

In some ways these circumstances they both experienced made them quite determined to start a new better life in oz, I know with out a doubt that if they had a hunky dory childhood they both wouldn't have come to oz....

Remember, when life hasn't always treated 1 well they either give up ..or fight for something better.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash.
