Should Catherine and Leith not also have probed deeper and communicated better with us?
You shouldn't be targeting two or three individuals above all others here. It is not Catherine's fault, it isn't Leith's fault, and nor is it Steve Keen's fault. You are like a schoolyard bully sometimes.

Drama queen much? I didn't say it was their 'fault'... I'm not the one allocating blame here (you are). All I've done is highlight the fact that they've been bemoaning some non-existent FHB 'crisis' (even after they should have been well aware there were issues with the data). If you call that 'bullying' then you must have lived a very sheltered life. Welcome to the real world... here in the real world, sometimes people disagree with and question others. Get used to it.
Why do you believe the MSM should have probed deeper and communicated better with us, while also believing Catherine Cashmore and Leith van Onselen had no responsibility to do the same?
Should Catherine and Leith not also have probed deeper and communicated better with us? They are supposed to be property experts, not just general MSM. If amateur APF members could figure it out nearly a year ago, why not them? And what's worse, they were both made aware of the concerns with the data months ago when it was discussed on APF, yet they continued (and still continue) to churn out articles bemoaning the 'affordability crisis' and the 'priced out FHBs', while blaming 'speculators' and negative gearing for the non-existent problem. Because that narrative better fits their agenda.
There is a difference between Catherine and Leith.
Catherine is writing in newspapers as a journalist in reputable publications and is constrained by journalistic ethics - She will need some other "expert" to go on the record and say it and be quoted, or she will need to find some hard evidence in the numbers.
I ran up against this issue a few times back when I was a designated press contact for an equipment vendor. I would be talking with journalists and even analysts, and there would be this well-known fact that I suggested they should be taking into account in their writings. The response I would get would go like: "I know that and you know that but I cannot find anyone in authority who will go on the record as saying that so I cannot print it. Can you suggest someone who I should talk to who will just say that to me?".
LVO on the other hand is an opinion blogger who can say what he thinks.

I doubt the real numbers exist... it looks like they're just not being recorded, but a journalist like Catherine should at least have been able to contact somebody at the ABS to ask them how they calculate FHB numbers. I don't think the missing data can be retrospectively determined now, without some sort of survey.

So Who is not doing their jobs properly? About FHB activity, they are out there / they do exist.
Who is accountable?
Please don't toad out MB....
Newjerk? can you try harder than dig up another person's blog. My first promo was with Billabong and my name in English is modified with a T, am Perth born but also lived in Sydney to make my $$ It's Absolutely Fabulous if it includes brilliant locations, & high calibre tenants..what more does one want? Understand the power of the two "P"" or be financially challenged Even better when there is family who are property mad and one is born in some entitlements.....Understand that beautiful women are the exhibitionists we crave attention, whilst hot blooded men are the voyeurs ... A stunning woman can command and takes pleasure in being noticed. Seems not too many understand what it means to hold and own props and get threatened by those who do. Banks are considered to be law abiding and & rather boring places yeah not true . A bank balance sheet will show capital is dwarfed by their liabilities this means when a portions of loans is falling its problems for the bank.

Agreed. Particularly on the possibility of getting retrospective correct data. That information would seem to have been lost.
But you will admit there is a possibility she contacted the ABS and got stonewalled, right? Or couldn't get an interview with someone who was allowed to be quoted which amounts to the same thing.
On the other hand she might not have of course.

Maybe, but she could have blogged about that if she had.
Chris Vedelago certainly made a name for himself by asking for FIRB data and being refused.
I might email the ABS myself tomorrow if I remember.
