"It were not best that we should all think alike; it is difference of opinion that makes horse races." - Mark Twain on why he avoids discussing house prices over at MacroBusiness.
"Buy land, they're not making any more of it." - Georgist Land Tax proponent Mark Twain laughing in his grave at humourless idiots like skamy that continually use this quip to justify housing bubbles.

Heh, I only need a 1 bedroom flat, don't need more, won't need more, ever.

I may live close to Melbourne CBD now, but I wouldn't dream of living in London, maybe somewhere on the outskirts or further out.

Last time I used a hospital was when I was beat up by bloods. (Random mugging)

I can get my glasses, sent from the UK, cheaper than I can buy them from an optometrist in Melbourne.

Healthcare in England is free for all permanent residents, paid for by taxes, same as in Sweden, I'm not sure if our Medicare system could be held to the same regard. Especially with the dwindling amount of doctors that provide bulk billing, which also only covers selected services. I know the US system is dismal, but really only if you're unemployed. I'm not thinking of elective surgery anytime in the future. Australia ranks 32nd in healthcare according to the WHO.

My IT course is Networking and hardware based, haven't been a programmer since high school, don't ever want to be a project manager.

Nothing wrong with renting, been renting so far, probably rent for a while wherever I end up.

We're too isolated here in Australia and it's done something to people's psyche's, I want to live in a country that exists now, not wishes it was still 50 years ago.

Australian's pay more for music, movies, gadgets, software, hardware, furniture, white goods, electronics, even things/food manufactured in Australia are sold cheaper overseas, our population isn't big enough to compete.

Oh and real internet isn't happening here, The Liberal Party won't ever say they were wrong. If they do, I might decide to stay. (not holding my breath though)

I've met many an ex successful person at the various food vans in Melbourne, while it is unlikely that a lot of people will end up on the streets, it can happen, no matter how good or popular you are.
Re 'IT' Networking, I was pushed out of that 5 years ago in London, mostely to do with age, you have a limited window of opportunity age wise especialy when it comes to 'in the field' network eng and the other stuff like I used to do in now in Curry land where they can hire 4 for the price of one (and need 4 by the way). I dont belive IT is a good industry in any western country any more and is more a matter of luck than hard work that gets you the jobs/contracts.
ps I had all the international qualifications needed at time of redundancy but did'nt do me much good when hunting for my next job, god knows how a new starter in that business gets a leg in the door.
As for flats in London, there's plenty of outer/middle suburbs you can buy a 1/2 bed flat for under GBP 200k and much better flats than you will find in Melbourne (like a donga 'they' called a 'one bed flat' in Richmond I looked at recently 27sqM??? what a crock and only $450K) You will get double that size for $100k less in London if you look around, easy.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.
