Hi folks,

Been away a while but had a question re: renovations and though someone on here may be able to help (Alex if this topic isn't allowed here then apologies and feel free to move it).

Pretty simple situation - I want to get a floor-to-ceiling built in robe (rough dimensions 2400mm high x 2400mm wide by 750mm deep), inlcuding a mixture of shelves and hanging space, with mirrored doors on the outside. I asked the agent to get a quote for their usual tradies to put it in and they came back with a quote of $2000, which seemed on the high side to me.

Has anyone had any experience of getting something like this done, and a ballpark figure of what a fair rate would be?

(NB I got the agent to do it as I have been overseas for an extended period but am about to return, when I get back I will ring a few tradies myself, but wanted to see if anyone here had any advice)

Thanks in advance!

Have a chat to a small kitchen workshop. They tend to do a better job than your average carpenter and are used to making things fit well in clearly defined spaces.

While it's true that those who win never quit, and those who quit never win, those who never win and never quit are idiots.

fwiw, we had same design wardrobe installed 7 years ago but 4.0m wide instead of your 2.4m
It cost us $950

It was the first built-in wardrobe ad we stumbled across in the local newspapers.

If there is no alterations like chippie work plastering etc that is dear as shit!

3 glass doors required with those approx dimensions should be around $600 - $800 basic inserts should be around $400 all installed. max $1200

We looked at robes in our bedrooms, we decide to turn our smallest bedroom into a walk in robe.
That way you do not lose the room in your bedroom.

or a "cabinet maker"? that is the profession for built in furniture no ?

there should be a few listings in your local rag.. built-in-robes, kitchens etc made to order are there game and should get something for less than $1k for sure.... but it depends on your finished materials, etc .. ... melamine over chipboard will be cheap for sure... but if you are asking for solid wood, vinyl wrap, routered doors, etc it'll cost more...

agents' tradies can often be pricey due to the referral so check out your local first..
