Hi guys, I am looking for advice on suburbs to buy in North Brisbane. I have had a transfer to our Brisbane office signed off so we'll be moving in November and intend to buy striaght away. We got $200k saved and I mentioned in another thread reluctant to borrow $500k to buy a $700k 3 bed in the Shire,Sydney. So as a family we are looking forward to the change.
Initially I was going to look at Gold Coast, but now put off by the amount of stock and bad reports and the commute would be an hour train to Fortitude Valley (where the office is). The Northern line train can get me to the office much quicker so thats a bonus and Caloundra is only 30 mins and Noosa is 1hr 10 from say Narungba which looks an okay suburb. These suburbs listed below you can buy a 3/4 bed with pool on a decent sized block for under $450k. Be good if I can buy within walking distance of station, but would like to know if there are any locals on here who could point me in the right direction with which suburb might be more sought after than another. Will carry out research my self also but would be great if I could get some feedback before going up for a 4 day reconnaissance mission.. Many thanks

I suggest that you rent for the first six months, and then make you decisions based on transport, shops, schools, and all the mundane things that really matter.
Prices are rising, but they are not galloping away. You will blow a lot of money if you buy above market value in the wrong area, so take some time and make a decision based on local knowledge that you will need time to acquire.
Fortitude Valley can be easily accessed from several directions.

You'd be stupid to buy straight away, rent for a while and discover the city. For example your travel times are way way wrong.

It is false to say prices are rising without saying exactly where however I agree with your advice to rent and check it out.
