It's irrelevant, your clients and end users are government employees. You salary is paid from taxes.
Let me see, you were a contractor on one of the huge taxpayer sucking projects like the ATO clusterf&ck or similar, being overpaid from the public purse, bought a house for 500K and hey presto, it went up in price to 1M. [Golf clap]. And there still isn't any mention of what you did for the common good. You being a millionaire doesn't help any of us, only you.
I was once part of a team that developed a suite of products that saved a billion dollar Australian company from going bankrupt and sold to foreign interests, generated hundreds of millions in domestic and export revenue in a very competitive market, and saved 1000s of well paid jobs from redundancy. Then the fuckwit Howard got in and made it impossible to do any value adding business in Australia, so the company relocated overseas, but not before the leaches in Canberra sucked as much out of them as possible, and spent it on your favourite investment. Given the current state of politics in Australia, value adding business is never coming back here, and we will continue to regress to being a Banana Republic. It's time for me to get into the Banana business, suck down some of that sweet, sweet taxpayer money without having to do any hard yakka for it.
Now, what have you done for the common good?
Your three assumptions about me are all wrong. I have worked on projects that directly impact Australia's national security, and financial viability.
And you were part of a team that made something. Hooray for you. If you were as smart as you profess, you must surely be a multi-millionaire also, yes?
EDIT: You remind me of a programmer I knew from Sydney who made some fairly outlandish claims about single-handedly saving the world...

Sorry, was this a private company ensuring Australia's national security and financial viability, or was it the Federal Government? And the 'self made' part of your millionaire status, did you create a product to sell, or were you a 'self made' employee of some large contractor?

Being smart doesn't make you rich. Being on the right pipeline of free government money is the ticket. Congrats to you, but 'self made millionaire' is a stretch for 'overpaid contractor working for the MIC'.

I'm sure you saved us all from the scary brown people. Our eternal thanks.

You're the one who said the other day that it's ok that house prices cost 2-3 times as much in real terms, because laptops were $2k around the late 90s. (and completely disregarded that almost no one had laptops back then, most people just had shitty beige computers and 17 inch crts if they were lucky)
You have no credibility.
What are these fantastic skills of yours that made you a millionaire, only a few years ago? You're only 38/39 yeah? By that time you had already bought lots of properties and you had made your big capital gains.
Liar.
stinkbug omosessuale Frank Castle is a liar and a criminal. He will often deliberately take people out of context and use straw man arguments. Frank finally and unintentionally gives it up and admits he got where he is, primarily via dumb luck! See here Property will be 50-70% off by 2016.

For someone who is apparently a product creating genius, you sure post up some stupid comments. Of course I contract to government (sometimes indirectly), working for a range of government organisations. Yes, taxes pay for that, this was never in dispute.
I have never made money by working on a mega-project.
Your comment about 'scary brown people' says a lot about how ignorant and bigoted you are. Fortunately, the security vetting process stops people like you from being part of the decision making and program implementation for such things.

Sorry Moops, you're too stupid to be participating in this discussion. Product-creating geniuses and self made millionaires only.

Actually, it was in dispute. You disputed it. You said, and I quote I'm not a public servant, and never have been., by implication, "My earnings are not payed by taxes." Now that you have come clean that the public purse has created your millionaire status, lets address the rest of your Liefecta.

Well, that's OK then.

LOL, you know nothing about me. Your hand-waving about how you had done something for the common good by throwing out the vague, amorphous "national security" term like a word-grenade to intimidate "Oh yes sir, sorry sir, didn't realise it was national security sir." speaks volumes.

I'm sure the vetting process for a security clearance these days excludes those who are capable of critical thinking. It used not to, but times have changed. Congratulations on being admitted to such an exclusive elite club. Also, thanks for making it easy for the government to invade our privacy and do away with any pretense of civil rights, we all feel a lot safer now, except when we are speaking or typing.
While we are on the subject of your immeasurable contribution to our society's future, I am most intrigued by your claim to have contributed to the nation's 'financial viability'. After my reposte above, you probably don't feel like sharing.

Let's go through your comment bit by bit.
First, why would you assume that only public servants are paid by government? Ever heard of private service providers selling to government? Private consultants? Hell, office supply companies. There are a whole range. And I maintain that I have never been a public servant. For someone who carries on about critical thinking, you sure aren't exhibiting any...
I have provided services to a range of government departments, and hold a high government security clearance. Obviously I'm not going to be able to give details on a public forum, but let me simply say that there is far more going on in regards to (as you put it) 'scary brown people' than will ever be divulged to the media or discussed in public. There are parts of govt you have never even heard about that fulfil quite important functions.
Your comment about the vetting process shows that you really know nothing about it, which is normal for someone who hasn't been through it. Critical thinking has never had much to do with it, though, so good guess there. I like the comment about invading your privacy though - it's actually kinda funny when you see what really goes on.
To bring this back to reality, I don't think we're going to see eye to eye on this. We clearly have widely differing views, and neither of us will (quite rightly) divulge details on apublic forum. Unless of course you're prepared to fill us all in on how you saved a giant company and kept Australia solvent...

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I wasted my 20s, give me a free house!
Waaah I bought in my 20s for half price(in real terms) and I want more! Waaah, where's my government and RBA mummy and daddy?!
Fixed it for you.

LOL, now you are taking my position. I said you were paid by taxes. Go back carefully through my posts. I never stated you worked for the public service, only that everything you earn is public money. This may surprise you, but there are people who work for private corporations that sell products to end customers who are not government.

How do you know I've never heard about those parts of government? Oh right, I forgot, your clearance allowed you to look me up.

Actually I know a lot about the vetting process and how it has changed over time. But given your secret squirrel status, you should already know that.

It's not really very funny at all, but totally expected for a modern state apparatus post second world war.

We obviously have very different views on what is good for society. I'm generally of the opinion that capitalism, moderated or balanced by a regulatory or legislative structure that also requires a contribution from all toward a Common Wealth, has generally proved to be pretty good on the prosperity front for all those societies who have tried it. Secret, authoritarian, opaque, centrally planned and controlled societies have tended to fare not so well. In fact, they tend to concentrate wealth in the hands of a small group of people and in the long run, completely destroy any and all motivation to do any work at all in the populace, and collapse under their own weight. I think I have participated in the first type of society for at least part of my career. You I suspect have worked towards bringing about the second type.

I think your attention span needs some work. The company has already left Australia, and the jobs went with it. The work I did as part of a team of people only delayed it's loss. As for keeping Australia solvent, I don't know what you are talking about. Is that from an imaginary conversation in your head? (Is Australia still solvent?)
