Labor turnaround targets Abbott for all-out assault

August 15, 2013

Labor plans to put Tony Abbott's character at the centre of the election campaign after a third stumble by the Opposition Leader in three days.

Despite having presented Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as a beacon of positive politics, Labor strategists have called game on for an all-out assault on Mr Abbott.

In an interview on Wednesday, Mr Abbott appeared to dismiss same-sex marriage as ''the fashion of the moment''. Finance Minister Penny Wong, who is in a long-term same-sex relationship, tweeted: ''Note to Mr Abbott: Equality is not a fashion item.''

The criticism came after Mr Abbott referred on Tuesday to the ''sex appeal'' of the Liberal candidate for Lindsay, Fiona Scott, and a slip of the tongue on Monday when he said no one was ''the suppository of all wisdom''.

The Labor campaign initially decided against commenting on the sex appeal quip, but Mr Rudd came out swinging on Wednesday, declaring any male employer who stood up in a workplace and praised a female employee's sex appeal would be ''in serious strife''.

''In modern Australia, neither sexism nor racism nor homophobia has any place whatsoever, and I believe people look to their national leaders to set that sort of example,'' Mr Rudd said.

Only 23 more days until we get a change of government. :pop:

I don't think anyone ever seriously thought Rudd could win the election for the ALP. It's all about saving some of the furniture from the blaze. Some members think/thought they might save their seats and not have to go out and find a job....

I thought he might win it on the NBN. But I can respect and agree that the "left" have been very repulsive. $400bn in debt is quite ridiculous too, with nothing to show for it except for the usual overpaid and rent seeking dick heads. It's horrendous really given what we could have had for $400bn. I never watched him much on TV back around when he was PM, but having watched him lately, he really does look like a fuckwit.

The "left" just shot themselves in the foot again, by going haywire over Abbott calling someone sexy. :re:

Labor is down to 6-1 from 4-1 a couple of weeks ago, Liberal 1.10.

Frank finally and unintentionally gives it up and admits he got where he is, primarily via dumb luck!

The liberals should be a shoe in, as long as they don't lose the key to the shoe cupboard they have locked Abbott in. As long as he doesn't get out and speak to the public, they should romp it home.
Whenever you have an argument with someone, there comes a moment where you must ask yourself, whatever your political persuasion, 'am I the Nazi?'

Three years later, Kevin Rudd finds himself behind Julia Gillard

August 19, 2013
Tony Wright

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd hasn't been forced to battle the damaging leaks that all but destroyed Julia Gillard's campaign three years ago, but he and his Labor government suddenly find themselves in a much worse position than that which engulfed Ms Gillard at the same time in the last federal election.

Just short of three weeks out from the 2010 election, Gillard Labor had slumped to a primary vote of 36 per cent against the Abbott opposition's 45 per cent in the Fairfax/Nielsen poll, and 37 per cent to 44 per cent in Newspoll, or 50-50 on the two-party preferred scale.

Rudd Labor, also a few days short of three weeks before the election, is now on a 34 per cent primary vote, while the Abbott Coalition is on 47 per cent, according to the latest Newspoll.

That equates to a two-party preferred vote of 54 per cent to the opposition and a losing 46 per cent for Labor.

Mr Rudd, in short, has a vastly steeper cliff to climb than Ms Gillard faced if he is to have any chance of retaining the prime ministership.

The only advantage he enjoys is that he is not being undermined by the sort of leaks that brought Ms Gillard low.

Abbot is the most flawed leader in Liberal history and we’ve got a bent, incurious media to thank.

It’s not that we don’t need a change of government we do, but it shouldn’t be Abbot.

The paid parental leave scheme is a disaster. We’re handing out very large sums of money to people who don’t NEED it while ignoring other far more more pressing needs. It is an expensive disaster, because no government will be able to get rid of it.

If the Libs to achieve their carbon target, (but they won’t because chunk of them are quite barking mad, with the belief that every single peak science body on the planet is staffed by moronic ghouls), they will run 4-15 billion over budget. When quizzed about this Abbot said – well his environment spokesman was happy with it … and the media seemed to think that was fair enough …

And no boats will be turned Around – because they ALL get scuttled. This is an obvious point and Rudd is the only one to have made it in the last year.

Out with the old, self serving media ASAP!
