i laughed when people tried to bag out the quay because it was too much like singapore.

if perth was like marina bay that'd be fine by me.
Well I guess it does have an island culture.

Yep - the similarities between Perth and HK, Sing are glaringly obvious.
I would not sneer too much, Australian has a safe haven image for the far east in the way Dubai has for the Middle East. There are plenty of rich Asians who seek a safe bolthole and also wish to educate their children here. Perth is closer to Asia than Sydney and much cheaper to purchase homes here.

Sydney is a spectacularly beautiful city, no doubt about it and a very desirable place to live, but Perth has a much better climate (less humidity) and is not far behind on its natural beauty ie huge lakes and Parks dominate the city. I really don't get it when folk are so negative about the future of Perth. We are planning to sell up in Sydney and make this move permanent, my three adult children love it here and don't have the least desire to return to traffic choked Sydney with its similar wages and million dollar plus semis. My eldest is quite happy with her $550K, 4x2 with ocean views, on a 940sqm sub-dividable block, 30km from the city and 5 mins from the rail-line. She would be lucky to afford a tiny unit that distance inland from Sydney.
Definition of a doom and gloomer from 1993
The last camp is made up of the doom-and-gloomers. Their slogan is "it's the end of the world as we know it". Right now they are convinced that debt is the evil responsible for all our economic woes and must be eliminated at all cost. Many doom-and-gloomers believe that unprecedented debt levels mean that we are on the precipice of a worse crisis than the Great Depression. The doom-and-gloomers hang on the latest series of negative economic data.

WA business confidence plunges: survey

September 11, 2013 10:52AM

BUSINESS confidence in the West Australian economy has fallen to levels not seen since the global financial crisis, a survey has shown.

A Westpac/Chamber of Commerce and Industry survey released on Wednesday shows 60 per cent of businesses in the state expect the local economy will perform poorly over the next 12 months, compared to 29 per cent this time last year.

Just eight per cent of respondents expect conditions will improve, which is the lowest since March 2009.

Almost half of respondents - 48 per cent - reported that their bottom line had deteriorated, in line with falling sales and rising business costs.

About 30 per cent had cut staff during the September quarter to date, with only 13 per cent hiring more workers.

The next abs stats will make very interesting reading for WA. I think it's entirely possible that the libs have sucked the air out of the WA housing market. Doh!

All eyes to jobs data tomorrow.

After the 10, 000 lost last month it will likely be a small positive number.

You've been repeating this doom about Perth almost on a weekly basis ever since you joined the forum. Don't you ever get pissed off at always being wrong?

Old news Mike. I did agree with you, and I even turned bullish for a time.

But the gains have fizzled out. It's over.

Perth was very predictable, and I've said as much.
I've also said - going forwards - I think it's peaked.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.
