I just put an extra 16gb in my work 27 inch imac today. It now has 20. Woohoo. I had 8 in it before. $80 + postage from crucial in the States.
I put in the extra 4GB of ddr2. The 4 sockets are all filled up with the total of 8GB. I tossed that annoying ram fan with the grinding third fan. But I won't buying a new box as long as the present one does what I need.
You never did get around to posting that photo, did you?
No I didn't. I refuse to Kowtow to your demands. Nice to see that you know your place and bow to mine.

AArgh. Sign me up for Rome II. I wonder if 2013 release is realistic. Certainly looks like it will make the GT6800 sweat though.

They're recommending you buy the game first, then find out your machine can't handle it and then you can upgrade your machine.
Funny thing is I've been down for 24 hrs. My computer went dead, it would start, beep and shutdown. I thought I might have knocked the CPU as I dedusted the box. Trying to paste the CPU in just didn't work. I took it to a repairman and it turned out to be graphics card, the capacitors were bulging. So I bought a GT640 for $95. The one you recommended would require a bigger power supply than I got, and they recommended if it came to that I might as upgrade the entire machine. Perhaps you are clairvoyant?
Lack of reality prevails in Rome 2. Those flaming ship catapults were shooting missiles 1000 to 1500 feet. In reality the max range was 500 feet. The game works on a better priciple. Instead of going into a battle program like in the old game. In this one you zoom on the strategy map straight to the battle.
The next trick of our glorious banks will be to charge us a fee for using net bank!!! You are no longer customer, you are property!!!

Hmm. I must be remembering wrong. Wasn't the Geforce 6800 a huge dustbuster beast that ate about 200W?
The GT640 is very good value for money and is probably nearly as fast as the 6800. It might not be able to run Rome II TW at high graphics quality though.
Who wants reality. I want carnage.

Is a good site for seeing if your rig can run a game you are interested in.
There are some people who seem angry and continuously look for conflict. Walk away, the battle they are fighting isn't with you, it's with themselves.
The first lesson of economics is scarcity: There is not enough of anything to satisfy all who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics. ~ Thomas Sowell.
Who was the fool, who the wise man, who the beggar or the Emperor? Whether rich or poor, all are equal in death.

Count, you can get an idea, or the exact reason, as to why your computer won't boot up from the type of beep it makes.
Obviously one will need two or more computers in the house.

Thanks Moops. The problem was that my older computer, the 2003 Medion, wouldn't connect to the internet. So a resource that had proved handy in the past was absent. When I got the Landmark back on line, I turned my attention to the Medion. The phone tech thought that Avast might have been the culprit, so I removed the program. But after that the C drive wouldn't boot up, nor could I get safe mode. Bart PE and the XP dos look alike would work, but neither could read the C drive. I tried to load Ubuntu on the CD ROM basis but the old 512 MB of DDR ram wasn't enough. I found another 2 x 256 mb ram sticks down the local repair computer shop for $5 each. With 1024 MB on board I could load Ubuntu and it proved capable of reading the C drive.
In any case the 2GB GT640 OC is working out quite well in the Landmark. It's idle temp is 30 - 32 C which is half what I get with the 9800 gt at the best of times. Even the CPU and M/B are idling at 45 C. This is the coolest I've ever had the Landmark. The new Nvida cards have a new architecture that uses half the power of the of the older cards and it comes with a good fan.

The old pentium 4s would run at around 80c and that was considered normal!
I got my old piece of crap working, I used a toothbrush on the ram gold bits and inside the slots and it's been working like new.
I think I'd rather the germans made computers and that they lasted for 20 years like their cars do.
I'm glad you could get such cheap ram. That's very cheap. I have a computer shop near me that preys on people's ignorance and the fact that they want their computer to last for more than a couple of years and they'd probably want $100 for that ram.
