My apologies, I used the wrong words. Let me try again.
First you go to the roulette table and put your whole portfolio on number 1. If you lose, create a new portfolio and declare the original one void. Keep doing this until the white ball finally lands on number 1. Viola 3500% gains. Lets see property do that!
So you imply that I am going to reset the portfolio everytime it looks bad?
It is more a case of the family sitting at the table playing a game and then after the game started arguing about the rules. So the game was restarted.
I don't imply here, I outright state that if the current portfolio was negative nothing would have been said. Next week it might be, that's what shares do.

He should have mentioned that the portfolio had changed, but I think it was an innocent oversight. He is not trying to hide it.
Poontang even quoted "Would some one like to reply to the new investment portfolio and lock in the figures?" on the 12th Jan!! Poontang was upfront and had to change the portfolio because the portfolio value changed from 240k to 480k.
I did not reset the portfolio. It is a new portfolio under different trading conditions, the original portfolio is void as far as I am concerned.
Semantics. We now know that you started again and wiped out the losses on the original portfolio. Why then did you make the false claim on the other thread that the value had returned by the time of the switch over?
Quote:
Using the very same argument bulls do on housing, the portfolio lost nothing as no shares were sold. by the time it was switched over it had returned to opening balance.
The first portfolio balance had NOT returned to the opening balance by the time of the switch over.

I had not tallied it up, I do that on weekends and post up the new portfolio value. A glance at the portfolio on my trading account had shown a few green arrows so felt confident it had recovered most if not all of the loss. It was already someway to regaining the 5.5% loss The portfolio went down to $226k and recovered to $236k
That was $4k short of the original amount, like I said I had not tallied it up at the time but there were a few green arrows on my trading chart so I feel it was pretty much back to even.

I did consider starting a new thread, it was 5 in the morning and I just wanted to go to bed so I added to the same thread.

I already pointed it out. In real life, you can't just "reset" your portfolio and ignore all losses.

O I see what your doing. That's how they operate the DOW Jones and other leading indicators. When GM goes into the toilet and everyone loses their life savings they just flip GM out and replace it with some new company that has a rising stock price.
Negative gearing is a form of leveraged speculation in which a speculator borrows money to buy an asset, but the income generated by that asset does not cover the interest on the loan
A negative gearing strategy can only make a profit if the asset rises so much in price that the capital gain is more than the sum of the ongoing losses over the life of the speculation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_gearing

Well actually they pull the plug on the computers and stop all trades and start again now. (in a manner of speak)

Share Portfolio Total $491443 Share Portfolio Original Amount $476500 Pre Paid Interest on loan 12 months in advance @ 7.65% $19625 Total $496125
No trades made. (trades made will be updated when made.) No dividends declared.
RAU and MAD have underperformed but will hold them a bit longer and see how they go. RAU was always a speculative play in the portfolio hence a $5k holding only. MAD was a stronger play.. Will watch closely.
NFI what happened with column headings...

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.
