I see the doctor about every 3 months. Last time my BP was perfect.
My plan was to limit myself to an average of 2500 cals per day. But over the last 6 months I've averaged 3200 cals per day.

Try to avoid all processed foods and most especially stop using sugar.
Funny thing is I started taking B3 tablets (nicotinamide) a little while ago and my craving for sugar fell dramatically. B3 is used to transform body fat into glucose.
Hey count I gave smoking up at 40 and weighed 85kg. A year later I was tipping the scales at 122 kg. I ended up in hospital for a month after having what I thought was a heart attack. My BP was 190/128 and a month later I was diagnosed with auto immune thyroid disease. Nice! I gave up drinking and smoking and lost 10 kg by the time I got out of hospital. Now I'm on replacement thyroid medication my weight has dropped significantly. I only have slight BP now nothing to worry 130/85. Watch your BP with weight it's a silent killer and cholesterol is the biggest most important yearly test you should have. I never used o go to the docs but now I've had every test known to man The key is to cut out carbs and regular exercise but I suspect you al ready know that Do any other forum members avoid the doc?
I knew you were an ex smoker from the comment you left on the cigarette packaging thread you tobacco nazi!!! Please know im kidding mango = ) after quitting 2 weeks ago i feel the same way - i cant believe how repulsed i am by cigarettes in general. Is your medication T3 or T4 thyroxine? T3 is much (much!) more powerful but most GPs won't prescribe it. Congrats on getting your health under control - ironically I have avoided the doctor because my lifestyle choices have had me shit scared of becoming a statistic but that is finally changing now

That's the best advice. Cut out bread, rice, pasta, etc. Try to avoid all processed foods and most especially stop using sugar.
Similarly, apparently many people achieve extremely good results with this diet which includes a cheat day on which you can eat anything you want: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slow-Carb_Diet
That looks like a great tried and tested (and balanced!) plan for someone to follow. The carb up/junk day really helps maintain muscle via insulin response. Are you following the meal plan atm? If want to go a step further take a look at 'Bodyopus' by Dan Duchaine. He doesn't hold back - it's some seriously heavy and honest shit. I have the paperback and don't know if this link is any good. http://www.ebook3000.com/Sports/Underground-Bodyopus--Militant-Weight-Loss-Recomposition_30963.html

Cheers for the tip, Count. I never experimented with B isolates but often used chromium picolinate with incredible results to control appetite at decent dosages (it's cheap too!). It might be time for both of us to get back into shape again?

I've been thinking about it recently which is why I had the link. I also started listening to an awesome paleo related podcast which have proven to be very informative:

I'm not sure Mel but I'm pretty sure it's not T3. T3 is obtained from pigs thyroid glands and your right its supposed to be better than the chemical form as T3 is made in the natural process of iodine absorption by your thyroid gland. Complex part of the endocrine system and pretty much controls everything.. I feel pretty normal most of the time but can feel moody and down at times. No different to most people's moods I suppose. Stinkbug will probably give me TBOTD now. Anyhow keep up the good work. Get off those smokes. Takes a good 3 months to get over the cravings but once you beat it you really do wonder why you did it and realize the true meaning of habit. Don't look back and good luck.
