But on what consistent basis do you propose to distinguish control of pollution for air-quality reasons (which "we should definitely take steps to reduce") from control of pollution for climate change reasons?!?

:lol :lol :lol
As a beginng point C02 is essential for life on earth and is still being fed to plants in greenhouses by burning fossil fuels.

Pollution control would for example find a cleaner way to produce C02 other than burning kerosene. How healthy can that be?

That's the great thing. You don't need to separate the reasons. In a sense there are bunch of things that need to be done anyway. They are "no-regrets" measures that reduce CO2 as well as solve other problems. As you don't actually believe that more CO2 in the atmosphere is a *good* thing, there is no inconsistency.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

It's not quite that simple.

Surely a prioritised, cost-optimised (and tax-optimised) list of pollution-mitigation strategies will differ, rather sharply, depending on whether CO2 reduction is a priority or (per Shadow) not???

After all, mitigation or eradication of many forms of industrial pollution is an inherently energy-intensive process, and most energy-generation in Australia is in turn reliant on coal or coal-gas combustion.

C02 is however an essentially almost biologically harmless naturally occuring component of the atmosphere, that is essential for most forms of life on earth, and not something that can be said to be a pollutant.

Some of the other stuff coming out of factory chimneys are not the kind of things you would want to breath in or feed plants with.

Surely there is an obvious difference between trace concentrations of C02 and something that can make you dangerously ill, cause cancer and so forth?

C02 has obviously been set up to be a kind of bogeyman where harmless pictures of clouds of water pouring from cooling towers are accompanied by a frightening message about a dangerous gas called C02.

Yet clearly CO2 doubters do, nonetheless...

We'll stick you in a glass case with the CO2 kept at 1% and you'll be dead in 2 or 3 days. At 3%, you'll be dead in a relatively short period of time. Animal life, it kills. The blood turns into carbonic acid when the body can't rid itself of enough CO2.
You ever wonder why in all those WW2 submarine dramas they're dead meat if they have to stay submerged for too long?

According to Wiki, your percentages overstate the toxicities (see below).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide#Toxicity

CO2 is an asphyxiant gas and not classified as toxic or harmful in accordance with Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals standards of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe by using the OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals. In concentrations up to 1% (10,000 ppm) will make some people feel drowsy.[78] Concentrations of 7% to 10% may cause suffocation, manifesting as dizziness, headache, visual and hearing dysfunction, and unconsciousness within a few minutes to an hour.[80]

Adaptation to increased levels of CO2 occurs in humans. Continuous inhalation of CO2 can be tolerated at three percent inspired concentrations for at least one month and four percent inspired concentrations for over a week. It was suggested that 2.0 percent inspired concentrations could be used for closed air spaces (e.g. a submarine) since the adaptation is physiological and reversible.
My name is based on a Seinfeld character, not on a belief of a housing bubble.

Oh yum.

Something to look forward to...

Never thought about it too much. Most people realise humans cannot live without oxygen and C02 is easily removed from air.

Producing or storing oxygen wasn't a problem. CO2 scrubbing in submarines only became commonly available after the war. Modern systems for rebreathing remove carbon monoxide and other pollutants as well.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.
