...Darra is a shit hole that will NEVER be gentrified like Oxley, Corinda and Sherwood.
I used to think that about Oxley.
Darra has been upgraded and the station has been upgraded.
It has a railway station - Algester, Moggil, Bellbowrie, and all of the other suburbs mentioned don't. transport wise it is superior to most suburbs, it just hasn't managed to be dicovered by the latte set yet, but it will be. It takes a long time for old prejudices to be overcome, but suburbs like Spring Hill, West End, Red Hill, Paddo, and New Farm were no go areas once.
Ignore the advice if you choose, but it's good advice.

Not sure this is relevant but I thought i'd throw this in; In my opinion Double Bay is the most undervalued suburb for apartments in Sydney if you were looking in NSW.
Its just about to be re-developed with upmarket shopping and 2 new cinemas while new restaurants are opening up all over the place. And its priced considerably lower than all suburbs around it such as Potts Point, Bondi and Woolhara etc.

Darra suffers from having a cement works.......... what? They shut that down in 1998?
Darra is certainly well-served from a transport perspective. If you go to the CBD by car your first traffic light will be on Elizabeth St, and it is right on the Ipswich line. Peter's advice is good. It's a suburb on the way up.

Newfarm used to be druggies and prossies, still is but now is in the $millions. Newstead was the same, wish I would have bought that cheap commercial on the wharfs so many years ago West end used to be classed as a shithole Oxley, Corinda, Sherwood, indooroopilly all shitholes on the outskirts of town at some stage
A stones throw from Darra is Edenbrooke full of upmarket homes HERE These are in the middle of an industrial area. All have to travel to Darra or Oxley for train transport into the city Better to buy at half the price and walk to Darra station............and the numerous restaurants nearby

I know those suburbs very well. In my view there is real downside risk in Edenbrooke (it's overrated) but only upside in Darra. I don't feel as sunny about Inala although it will rise in value. Darra is a very small suburb that can't expand. A few nice developments around the station and the texture of the area will change - that whole area will bounce in time. My only complaint is the noise from Ipswich Rd, but a lot of suburbs have road noise (for example Coronation Drive) and double glazed windows don't cost much.
But of course I like Vietnamese food.

I agree Much rather a double block in Darra for a fraction of the price and if so inclined build your monstrosity on that site.

I agree Darra itself is 800m from Ipswich road so if you bought closer to rail I doubt you would hear Ipswich road, I have never noticed it when there. Other expensive Brisbane Suburbs have the Western Freeway running through them as well.

Yeah. Anyone who bought in Newfarm in the early 90s did very well. Wish I had taken the advice I was getting at the time, but I wasn't psychologically or financially ready to take the plunge at the time.
Darra has been morphing since the 90s as well, but more into a family place and somewhat more slowly.

I acknowledge that Darra will never be a New Farm or even a Paddo, but what other suburb offers good transport within 15Klm of the CBD with starter homes on decent sized blocks for under $300K all with a new Tavern and new Shopping centre plus a newish large BMW dealership.
Have you been to the Monier Rd Tavern?
The land fill dump is gone, the cement works is gone, and so is the layer of cement dust that used to coat everything at Darra - it's a new day.
Actually cancel all of that - I might cruise the area myself this weekend and I don't like competition. Frank has given me an idea.
