"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."
- Socrates, in ~400 BC. (although source of quote is disputed)
Looks like people have often thought poorly of the younger generation.
True. It's probably just my perspective changing as I get older!
I disagree. Most young people I know live far more expensive lives than anyone else I know. Their idea of 'agile' is pissing off from a job after 18 months because they think they've 'earned' a year off overseas. They are unencumbered because they can't get their shit together long enough to buy anything beyond getting finance for a car. And when it all turns to poo, they run to mummy and daddy for help.
Ahh, that feels better!
Most people I know who "own" homes have debt up the arse and do fairly menial jobs and or are in the debt pushing or tradie business.
Most youngens I know don't own shit and rent and are just enjoying their youth.
The former will be fucked hard and deservedly so. The latter will either clean up or live simply and not be the self entitled pig bitches like the former.
They'll probably become well adjusted, well informed adults unlike older gen x and boomers who think watching the 6 o clock news is being informed.
stinkbug omosessuale Frank Castle is a liar and a criminal. He will often deliberately take people out of context and use straw man arguments. Frank finally and unintentionally gives it up and admits he got where he is, primarily via dumb luck! See here Property will be 50-70% off by 2016.

Actually a number of the Gen Y generation are old farts now. Ask any adolescent and they will tell you how very old you are.
Any expressed market opinion is my own and is not to be taken as financial advice

Lame, when I was 16 I thought 18 year olds were old too. Everyone does.

You describe my wifes brother.
He enjoyed his youth pissed his money up against the wall, didnt own shit and rented Then he lost his job and in time his wife. Now as a borderline alcoholic he is forced to live at home with his parents, one who has dementia.
He is 51
Do you think he wished he had done things differently?

You just described Moops at 51. And he'll still be blaming everyone but himself for his sad predicament.

Big deal. That's got nothing to do with it. The fact is when the bubble bursts it will be the self entitled, usually older people who suffer. People who are debt free will not. Generally speaking.

moops, younger people will be hit the hardest in a depression. they lack experience and qualifications compared to older workers. let me put it to you in the simplest terms, the 18yo graduate is going to get the sack in a down turn long before his middle aged boss. Older people have also had more time to build their wealth and can absorb down turns better. most of the welfare you call middle class goes to younger people.
I am the love child of Tony Abbott and Pauline Hanson
Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.
