Leith van Onselen arrogantly and falsely claims as "MY HYPOTHESIS"; The theory that downsizing baby boomers will have a negative effect on house prices

Is it incorrect for me to refer to supporting "my football team" or playing tennis at "my local tennis club" or being paid by "my employer"?
I would say no in each case.
* "Your football" team is generally taken to mean "the football team I support" * "My local tennis club" IS your local tennis club, and in fact saying "my" tends to imply you are a member of said club. * "My employer" is your employer, ie the person / company whom you are employed by.
"My Hypothesis" on the other hand means "the hypothesis I proposed / came up with" - very different context.
For Aussie property bears, "denial", is not just a long river in North Africa.....

Can you provide an explanation for the difference please?
There is no consistency in your approach. You're making up the rules as you go.

My interpretation of those 2 words is "my ongoing position". I interpret it like that because it is an economics blog, not a scientific journal.
As evidenced by the varying interpretations, the use of 'hypothesis' in this case is subjective and you cannot conclude that readers necessarily applied any authority to his statement. However, this thread has encouraged people to read the article more thoroughly, and I think has therefore backfired.

Indeed. If the OP's intent was to dissuade people from reading Leith's work, he's achieved the opposite. Macrobusiness probably got more hits as a result of this thread being created. Funny.
well fair enough then, 'my' has a different meaning to you, even after leith clearly explained that he didn't come up with the concept of people ageing.
But you should really focus on playing the 'game' and not the 'man', I would really like your opinion on the topic, and not grammar and punctuation?
A hypothesis, in a scientific sense, does not have to be original. It is the starting point for a test. Saying my hypothesis doesn't mean I am claiming it to be an original hypothesis. It is all semantics anyway, but if you think that saying my hypothesis means it is original then you are wrong.
I find it interesting that the majority of other comments on that post highlight the same point I am about to make.
Haven't you simply misinterpreted that sentence? A hypothesis can be drawn from prior hypotheses and subsequent findings (or lack thereof) of others. It doesn't appear to me in that sentence or by linking to previous discussion that he is claiming to have invented it all by himself.
However, take one Mr Christopher Joye who makes, publishes, admits to and self-references grandiose claims of hypothetical invention.
Yet more pollution of the forum with inconsiderate separate posts about MB that could be combined into a single thread.
Basically, CJ and L VO do the same thing... except that L VO probably makes more predictions which he then selectively reminds us of when/if they come true, where as CJ puts forward other peoples thoughts, and then brands them as his own predictions if they come true.
Nice to see you are balanced in your observation of both these guys... except of course, that your complaints of CJ are almost mute.
