JesusJones, did you read any of that article? or just the headline?

Did you read any of the blog I linked to?
Did you ask me to? Nicely?
I don't get involved in religeous debates and that is what it is. Enjoy your sermons.

The IPCC didn't get it wrong, The Daily Mail and The Australian reported it wrong.

Quote:

Eleven of the last twelve years (1995–2006) rank among the 12 warmest years in the instrumental record of global surface temperature[9] (since 1850). The updated 100-year linear trend (1906 to 2005) of 0.74°C [0.56°C to 0.92°C] is therefore larger than the corresponding trend for 1901 to 2000 given in the TAR of 0.6°C [0.4°C to 0.8°C]. The linear warming trend over the last 50 years (0.13°C [0.10°C to 0.16°C] per decade) is nearly twice that for the last 100 years. The total temperature increase from 1850–1899 to 2001–2005 is 0.76°C [0.57°C to 0.95°C]. Urban heat island effects are real but local, and have a negligible influence (less than 0.006°C per decade over land and zero over the oceans) on these values. {3.2}

0.12 is within the range they reported, not .20 as the newspapers say. .20oC/decade is the maximum safe level of increase, we don't want to be anywhere near it.

If anyone should be hung drawn and quartered it should be newspapers who don't investigate their stories.

I think we all need to step back, take what is in the papers with a pinch of salt, and wait to see what actually comes out. What we have is journos making interpretations on leaks in a way that gets stories printed.

The old "Eleven of the last twelve years (1995–2006) rank among the 12 warmest years in the instrumental record of global surface temperature[9] (since 1850). " chestnut is getting a little tired. It is pretty-well accepted by everyone except a few nutters that there was quite a sharp rise in global temps since the mid-70s which has continued at least into the last couple of years. If that's the case, of course you would expect the last 12 years to be almost all hotter than the years that went before them.

The interesting question is whether that is going to continue, and how fast. If you want to spin it the other way, the last 2 years' and 3 of the last 5 year's global mean temps have been below the 10-year moving average indicating perhaps a reversal of trend. That's equally true and equally free of useful information.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.

Forum Rules: The main forum may be used to discuss property, politics, economics and finance, precious metals, crypto currency, debt management, generational divides, climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, environmental topics, human rights or social justice issues, and other topics on a case by case basis.
