Once again, I’m not saying global warming is not real or it’s not human made. I’m just saying that there are so many unknowns that is still hard to tell.
Correlation between CO2 concentration and temperature is not an issue causation is. This might be true but and as far I know there is still no scientific proof to support this causation claim.
interesting web link, and I have been reading many links on that site, but much of what I have read seems hyperbole at best. I was reading the links to the "scientists" who are believe there is no man made climate change as evidence that there is no consensus, and as an example the quote Robert Betts Laughlin (a nobel winning physicists, so not to be taken lightly). But after reading some of his publications, he seems more interested in a longer view (10s of thousand of years, which is fair enough, the earth has been around a long time), yet when talking about future energy sources even he seems to discount renewable energy factoring largely into the world's energy needs, which I find very odd, given that all our current main energy sources are non-renewable, are estimated to be depleted sometime this century, and the only long term energy source we have is solar.
That site also only briefly mention the BEST results (by Richard Muller), which was meant to be the skeptics smoking gun that the world wasn't warming, with many initially saying before that the results would be accepted the findings as they stand. That site obviously criticises the results, as they are not in favour of its view, but I have read rebuttals at realclimate.org and from memory they link to other rebuttals. To be honest the whole site is a put off, as its obviously one sided (just like any pro only site would be). At least with a site like realclimate.org, you can see good debates on topics.
What I find interesting about much of this climate debate, whether you think global warming is occurring or not, is that many peoples do not see the link between CO2 emissions and our current energy sources and the world's economic growth. Many people still believe (a lot seem to be economists) that we can keep growing indefinitely, and there will be no major side effects. But with continued growths comes increased pollutions, and China is already without a doubt heavily polluted, and that is something that they will have to deal with soon. A task which will have a huge economic impact on them.
I've lost my links to the paper I mentioned previously, so I will find that and a few others on quick calculations on why CO2 emissions can be expected make a difference to our climate. It'll take me a day or two, mainly as I have a fair bit of work to do.
Thanks, but that's not evidence - it's just one guy's opinion...
Personally I don't think it's possible to measure human impact on climate change.
We don't have a clear picture of what the climate was doing before humans were around.
The climate is going to keep on changing whatever we do. We should just adapt to it.
Who's to say a warming planet won't be better for us than a cooling planet?
If climate change was making the planet cooler should do something to warm it up?
Just let the climate change and adapt to the changes. We can't prevent them.
An interesting response which actually tells me a lot .
1. Just one guys opinion.......? OK well if you want to trust your personal opinion over that of a climate scientist who actually cites figures for his rationale then that is your choice. Indeed it is his opinion but an opinion that is based on data from many corroborating studies, not picked out of thin air.
Yes, their is no proof of future events but don't make the mistake of thinking that your subjective opinion can be weighed against objective scientific research - because it doesn't regardless of what your ego tells you.
2. "Personally I don't think it's possible to measure human impact on climate change." See point 1.
3. "The climate is going to keep on changing whatever we do. We should just adapt to it." See point 1
4. "Who's to say a warming planet won't be better for us than a cooling planet?" My god man, there is so much research that advises to the contrary it is simply amazing that you would embarrass yourself by saying this. See point 1
5. "Just let the climate change and adapt to the changes. We can't prevent them." Now THIS is interesting in relation to future property prices. How do you see prices moving in relation to this adaptation. Please comment in relation to not only sea side properties and flow-on effects but also impacts on income, food prices, relocation costs, etc.
Good post shadow , good to see, we see eye to eye on something .
I wish that I nevr heard another word on climate change in my life , it can never be measured or proven , has wasted billions of dolars not to mention time on
