Apartments might in some cases be suitable for some single/couples - but they're from ideal for families.

However, I think there are major issues with many apartments in this country which makes them a sub-optimal choice even for non-families. Specifically, the sound insulation is crap. When I lived in an apartment I remember being able to hear whenever the upstairs neighbours had a pee, or put music on (and they weren't even loud people!!). And from what I've seen my experience was hardly atypical. Never again....

My experience too. Modern Australian apartments are poorly built in general. Whack em up as quick and cheaply as possible and flog em off for half a mill.
Compared to where?

I looked at buying an apartment overseas 18 mths ago in a new complex that wealthy locals and middle class expats where living in.
All were sold, but most had not even been fitted out as yet
I rented one that was for sale for 8 weeks to see if I liked the area and to ascertain if I would be happy living there

These are the pictures of some of the defects in the unit

Nice cracks and look at the ceiling to wall line

Nice powerpoint detailing, look closely at wall surfacing

Just a minor mistake in the granite benchtops, no one will notice

These sort of strange cavities where throughout the apartment, as were the bubbles and the cracks

But it had spectacular views

Useless self indulgent turds, and yes just like their parents.

However, Gen Y marks the point when the chronic deficiency in the character of our population manifests itself so profoundly that the symptoms of this ill are reflected in every aspect of our society.

I think the only thing you are proving is that the bottom was hit with whichever generation you are apart of.

I think I've already been through why trying to start a gen v gen trash talk is stupid.

Ahhhh, you just live picking fights, don't you Frank?

Here I make a neutral observation and you try to make it personal.

My name is based on a Seinfeld character, not on a belief of a housing bubble.

Put him on "ignore" You will not miss much....

Mat, generational divide is my fear and while I have bagged the boomers as a cohort, not individuals, I think you point is well said.

Well you did say that you couldnt handle living in them, so the question had merit.

So as not to upset you I shall reword it to "What makes Australians so special".

Truth Hurts Tard.

The degeneracy being exhibited by Gen Y down is obvious.

Prediction, in 30 years Australia will have a Criminal Justice system similar to Singapore.

Basically a sociological reaction to the rampant degeneracy exhibited by this age group.

why don't you just post some more images from the third world and tell us we're spoiled for wanting anything better than that...

those apartments are SHIT, and the people buying them are FOOLS for buying them, unless their plan is to sell them on to some greater fool in the middle of a boom, in which case they are just ASSHOLES.

apartments without decent sound proofing would create a big compromise to lifestyle, and I can fully understand why people wouldn't find that acceptable.

just because something is BETTER than something else, doesn't mean its GOOD!

I assumed the point you were trying to make is that there were a swarm of fools foolish enough to buy those places, so there will be just as many fools who buy them here.

but if the point that you are trying to make is that they are just fine, and you are spoiled for not taking them, then you are just wrong.

The only way you would begin to convince me of this is if you were to tell me you were gen Y...

Oh, stop trying to justify your pathological poo-stirring behaviour.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.

Forum Rules: The main forum may be used to discuss property, politics, economics and finance, precious metals, crypto currency, debt management, generational divides, climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, environmental topics, human rights or social justice issues, and other topics on a case by case basis.
