Cutting down on frivolous spending to keep up with first home mortgage wasn't easy; But he doesn’t regret the sacrifices made to enable him to get on the ladder and build wealth in Sydney's housing boom

I'll tell you who's cutting down on frivolous expenses; the property owning snobs in Applecross. Every time I go to the Heathcote Bar and Grill (like just this Saturday at 12 noon), it's deserted.
So sad they can't even afford to eat in their own neighbourhood. Although it's true, I didn't bother to check the queues at the swanky McDonalds they've got as fall back.

Now if they dropped their Cult of Property and did some REAL investment, they'd be free to pose down the pub like me...

People of middle class wealth don't spend that much. The people you normally see in the restaurants and pubs are from lesser suburbs, they are swanning in a better suburb pretending to belong there, as you probably were.
Take risks - if you win you will become wealthy, if you lose you will become wise

Are you a long termish family orientated dude Hidflect?

Or just a bit more self orientated???

Hmmm - We all make own decisions and choices according to our own best innermost understandings 'n lights 'n values I 'spose ...

With that being called FREEDOM - Which is a very much rather nice thing to have I'd suggest.

Not much point in living in a riverside suburb within walking distance of riverside pubs and eateries if you are not going to use them. Even less of a point if the only people who eat and drink in the riverside places are scumbags from lesser suburbs.

And if middle class people don't eat out in the nice places, where do they eat out?

Maccas in Canning Vale? HJ's Port Kennedy?

That was a tongue in cheek dig so I'm glad you took it well.

In all seriousness though, many of the nouveau riche are very tight with their money. They will make splashy gestures from time to time, but overall they are careful spenders.

I actually clicked that video Herbie. My plumber would've approved.

"In all seriousness though, many of the nouveau riche are very tight with their money. They will make splashy gestures from time to time, but overall they are careful spenders. "

I'm sure they're very prudent. I think a big middle class is Australia's great saving grace. But as Herbie implies (I think) it means there's not much to do here.

Anyway, tomorrow night Herbie's relatives are on 4 Corners(?). Queensland building corruption. Can;'t wait.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.

Forum Rules: The main forum may be used to discuss property, politics, economics and finance, precious metals, crypto currency, debt management, generational divides, climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, environmental topics, human rights or social justice issues, and other topics on a case by case basis.
