Melbourne population growth blows the blinkin' doors off

Melbourne population explosion

While net overseas migration into Western Australia has fallen all the way back to where it was before the resources boom, more immigrants are once again making their way to Sydney and Melbourne.

Melbourne has the most potential with oodles of easy building land out west. The question is will it remain relatively affordable?

Yes lots of expansion in the Northern and North Western Areas.

T.v news the other day was saying Melbourne may overtake Sydney in the next few years. :bl:

That's the thing with the Brits. They can turn out a bloody good film when they want to.

They can also throw out some proper shit.

Matthew, 30 Jan 2016, 09:21 AM Your simplistic view is so flawed it is not worth debating. The current oversupply will be swallowed in 12 months. By the time dumb shits like you realise this prices will already be :?: rising.

You will love this chart that clearly shows a surge in the numbers of young Australians reaching household formation and home buying age.
That should soak up any surplus.

There are so many positives going on in Melbourne right now for me both professionally and personally. Surplus just doesn't figure and I am doing well out of all the new housing in North Melbourne suburbs as well. Happy days.

Heading down for a wedding in December staying in the Intercontinental what a brilliant part of the city, thank God they preserved it from the gold rush days. Must pop into the Gothic Bank Cathedral Room and say a quiet prayer to the God of Prosperity.

This chart looks incomplete. What is happening to the +65 age cohort (ie the boomers)?. Death and relocation into retirement villages will also free up supply. We should look at both sides of the "demographic tsunami"
(S – I) + (T - G) + (M - X) = 0

Melbourne is certainly looking good for investment in well chosen aged care and single dwelling residences.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.

Forum Rules: The main forum may be used to discuss property, politics, economics and finance, precious metals, crypto currency, debt management, generational divides, climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, environmental topics, human rights or social justice issues, and other topics on a case by case basis.
