With this being a question I'm personally asking myself given that youngs in my family are keen to buy in what to me (and to them) is a falling market that still has 'some way' to fall yet.

Hmmm - But that just isn't phasing them. With the logic seeming to be Well we can afford it and it's a most suitable property in an area has very good long term prospects and we ARE buying for the long term.
Well done,
You pay the stamp duty.
Shire rates
Water rates
insurance
interest on the loans
maintain the property
Land tax if you rent it out.

Great Aussies.

Keep up the good work...

I'll contribute $30K ta tha deposit Chris - Interest free. (Wif 'em havin $50K 'emselves.)

'N be supportive of them regardin' whacking tha balance inta their offset account 'n 'only' chargin' 'em 2.75% on it - Where a bank would charge 'em rather more. (But wif that also bein' more than a bank would pay me given tha flexibility it gives me.)

'N Yeah, as a family we surely DO see value in home ownership - 'N pretty much have done for all tha 65 plus odd yrs I can easily trace that attitude back thru me own olds at a minimum.

Tho wif me personal attitude ta it wif tha youngs being rather more laid back than me old man's ta me I'd reckon ... :) - Wif him just pretty much giving me no choice in tha decision I woz gunna get inta property at tha age of 25. [Or a bit younger even? - Like sheesh it woz a while back now.] (Wif him just maybes figurin' I woz a late bloomer or some such regardless? - LOL. But anyways wif me bein' a pretty compliant young lad 'n sayin' "Yes Dad!" :D )
Yes,
Well done Herb.
Well done...

Is she in offer or contract mode?
I don't personally savvy that lingo Bardon - She's just in tha final year of her trade wif tha same employer she started wif.

Hmmm - Just between you me 'n tha gatepost ('so ta speaks' ... :) ) I had personally thought she very well might wanna travel at tha end of her time? (Yunno, see tha world 'n add ta her skills 'n blah 'n blah 'n wotnot.)

But Nope, seems she's just a bit more inclined ta dig in here 'n do tha hard yards 'n buy property - Sheesh, it woz only maybes a week ago I said ta her dad (me bro) tha world's her oyster?!? - But it would seem she does know her own mind ... For now at least.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.

Forum Rules: The main forum may be used to discuss property, politics, economics and finance, precious metals, crypto currency, debt management, generational divides, climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, environmental topics, human rights or social justice issues, and other topics on a case by case basis.
