So what's your predictions on the next RBA interest rate move/s dudes?; Mine is down - which puts me at odds with 80% of economists surveyed I read recently

Well, assuming they do actually move over the next 12 months I suppose?

No change in July.

Most likely no change, but if there is it'll be down.

When I lived in Oz in the '90's I always assumed that the RBA set interest rates and the banks were forced to follow. Now I see that banks put rates up independent of the RBA. So can someone explain briefly? If the banks can do whatever they want, how does the RBA rate mean anything?

Yours, confused...

Big assumption Herbie.

They'll just keep sitting on their hands.

They know there is nothing they can do, and as long as they can keep pretending that making no decision is a decision, they'll keep trying to get away with it.

No change for the next twelve months, unless there's a major economic problem causing them to cut.

I share the same thoughts, I think the monthly 'will we or won't we' meetings are just a farce and completely unnecessary at very least unecessary to report on. They should make a national media release stating no changes until such time as conditions change significantly.

Unemployment numbers come out this afternoon.

Apparently its still going to be around 5.7% but alot of that is bloody part time and casual which no one can really survive on.

Stupid bloody system! :bl:

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.

Forum Rules: The main forum may be used to discuss property, politics, economics and finance, precious metals, crypto currency, debt management, generational divides, climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, environmental topics, human rights or social justice issues, and other topics on a case by case basis. Topics unsuitable for the main forum may be discussed in the lounge.
