I've often thought about this - the internet does a hell of a lot of "good", but it does have some negative consequences as well - your point being one example.
For Aussie property bears, "denial", is not just a long river in North Africa.....
I don't think it would make any difference. It gives them a soap box and a bigger serving of confirmation bias, but these types of morons go searching for it.
The internet is just a new medium for stupid, it didn't invent it.
Most are self made losers, they win the lottery of life being born or getting to move here and proceed to screw it up anyway.
Winning the lottery of life is just one phase... winning it in the right country, with the right (caring) parents, with a silver spoon and/or with a bit of luck when it comes to mistakes not costing you anything more than disappointment are all lotteries that some people are not as lucky as you or I in.
Mocking those who don't win as many as you makes you as much a loser and also a tosser .
Or would'a common sense 'n pain prevailed - Within a coupla yrs?
Maybe; Maybe not ... But food for thought anyway eh?
I think this is an excellent question.
I know I was anti property in my early 20s. Straight out of uni, I thought I knew best. But after a few years of doing my own research as to what drives property prices I saw an opportunity to buy before the GST was implemented and other government costs were going to drive up replacement cost.
Information was harder to get back then. So once you got it, you really thought about the data because it was truely valuable.
Today, information (good and bad) is easy to get. Today, information is misinterpreted as knowledge. You see it here all of the time. People like Simon have no independent thought - just information grabs that support a bias. And he will believe he has knowledge (rather than information).
So I say that people's behavior would be different. They would be forced to think more, rather than find others to do their thinking for them.

Were you feeling a bit left out and needed to just post something, anything?

Good post! "Information is not knowledge" - that's a key take-away. The other thing I would add is that the internet makes the spread of "mis"-information far more prevelant than in the past.
Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash.
