Has the Grattan Institute 'shot its bolt'?; Seems that they just might have begun being reduced to trying to dig up 'loose pocket change' type options these days ...

I'm waiting Will - Wot's in it for me and mine to donate some of my hard earned to you and yours?
Actually here's the thing, there's nothing in it for you.
There's nothing in it for a Russian oil billionaire to change the system. The nothing in it for Wall Street bankers to change the system.
It's whether or not society as a whole, decides changes need to be made. But don't stress Herbie, these changes won't take place quickly or for a long time yet. It's likely however they will be forced on the government of the day. I think even Scott Morison is set to discover, he can't get the budget in surplus by taxing income.
The lastest ploy by the government is dropping business travel for life, for 20+ year pollies. Really? This will be lucky to save 40 million a year. So that means the government needs to find anther 999 of these little savings measures. Good luck on that one.
The articles I've read say the proposed changes to ex-pollie travel perks will save $1.5m pa. Not worth talking about.

They figured out they couldn't get by just taxing income a while back - So bought in taxes on consumption (called a GST).
'N now they still can't live on all that. So want more taxes (including death tax.)
Just where exactly does it all stop?
A Professional Demographer to an amateur demographer:"negative natural increase will never outweigh the positive net migration"
I was going to suggest a tax on stupidity, but then I realised that Australians are already the world's biggest gamblers.
Yeah it amazing how many people gambled on house prices drops, they were so sure they were gonna outsmart everyone and get something for nothing. That gambling mentality is really all about a bit of excessive greed hey?
It is hard to feel sorry for the likes of Steve Keen gambling his home because he was so sure the banks would trash ordinary Australian home owners the way they trashed ordinary Irish homeowners.
Karma hey?

Let me guess. You went to private schools your whole life, you lived in a gated community with private security to protect you, you took the family helicopter to work, eschewing the public roads, your family employed a private doctor and any hospital visits were to private hospitals.
Relax, you are a baby boomer. You have been carried like a f***ing baby your whole life and that will continue until you die. No promises after that though.
Don't worry. No one in your generation is going to vote to end the lifetime of coddling you precious little princesses. And your children are not going to vote away their inheritance. The only real threat is that all of the wealth creators emigrate because they are tired of carrying you and your parasitical little slurps, and the country becomes a banana republic. Then you will need to pay for more private security to your gated community and maybe take out kidnapping insurance.
A solid plan, and worthy of the finest socialist.
Jeez Jon Snow you are brainwashed with anger about silly nonsense you have read about people less than a decade older than yourself.
Look around you at your own peers - they are making money on their properties at a rate the boomers never ever saw, they have better wages, better hours better working conditions. How can you belief this hate filled silliness?
You sound like an overgrown child blaming Mum and Dad on all your problems.

No genius, re-assuring you that the lifetime of loot you stole from society is not going to be taken away from you.
Thank Christ for that! I couldn't think of anything worse than you trying to help.
So explain exactly where you think Herbie stole from society?
Our generation have paid more tax into the system than they have ever taken out.
You were unwilling to make small sacrifices in your life to step up into a better financial position, because you bought the idea that if you did nothing that the whole system would collapse and you would get an easy ride.
You gambled and lost Miles - your hard cheese is showing now.
You are like the adult children who complain about their retired parents spending their own savings.

Why don't you offer to pay a little bit extra tax yourself?
Why not support a fairer business taxation system or better taxation of massive corporations?
Why target the savings of the elderly ? I have watched these savings deflate so rapidly for our parents, the elderly need their savings - it is not yours to rob just because you see a big pile of money sitting there.
Why don't you young ones go out and work a couple of extra hours a week for the taxman to build all this great new infrastructure for YOU to benefit from?
Definition of a doom and gloomer from 1993 The last camp is made up of the doom-and-gloomers. Their slogan is "it's the end of the world as we know it". Right now they are convinced that debt is the evil responsible for all our economic woes and must be eliminated at all cost. Many doom-and-gloomers believe that unprecedented debt levels mean that we are on the precipice of a worse crisis than the Great Depression. The doom-and-gloomers hang on the latest series of negative economic data.
