About 1,182,000 dwellings are being constructed in the USA this year. Now tell me what is being built here?
I'll raise you and say that more residential construction is occurring in China than Australia without providing any reference. Does that make me the bad boy?

Ian was obviously confused. I clarified the issue for him (hopefully) without being aggressive and then you tried to get clever - that never works for you.
If you have such a passion for the truth, why didn't you correct Ian when you clearly had the chance. I'm sure he would prefer to be well informed and not misinterpret the media story.
Take risks - if you win you will become wealthy, if you lose you will become wise

The ability to read is not "clever." If there is an issue with more cranes working above apartment blocks in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane than in New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto and up to Calgary, you can take it up with Rider Levett Bucknall.

I don't have an issue with that at all, but that's not the way Ian read it based on his concerns. He appeared to believe that the number of cranes in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane outnumbered all of the construction cranes in North America.

Even the fact that there are more cranes than in New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto and up to Calgary should be enough.
I'm not in disagreement with the thrust of the article, I expect a glut, but not as big a glut as we would have if we were building more apartments in Brisbane Sydney and Melbourne that in the entire geographical area of North America.
Does that clarify it for you.

Perhaps, similar to Japan, construction is now cost-driven in the U.S; whereas construction costs are a secondary concern in Australia. That is a typical phenomenon in bubble-like conditions: Build at any cost knowing that price is not the sole driver of the purchase decision.
Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.
