I'm pretty sure we can build a robot to replace whatever it is you an' yours do.

Unless you an' yours are in the robotics business?
I think you must be mistaking me for a Luddite mate?

Shute, I swear some of you dudes are actually depressed we've not had a Great Depression.

Systemic inequality? Surely not eh bulls? Just another case of a whingeing bear who bought too many iphones and lattes.
Veritas - This is exactly what I tell you day in day out - do not leave yourself dependent on landlords.

You have the same opportunity as your peers and in this lucky country people a lot poorer than you can build up asset wealth in property.

Your trouble is that you disagree that working people should amass wealth through property, you really do not know where your own ethics and beliefs sit anymore. Why? because you have fallen for lies perpetuated by people who know just how to harness the energy of the young angry intellects like yourself.

Dump the doomsters Veritas

Yes, it's all a bit strange.

In the old days when money actually had a somewhat significant cost associated with it, I would have been more motivated getting renos done I reckon - But nowadays it's almost become a matter of dawdle along happily because money's cheap - So who the eff cares.

Hardly 'productivity enhancing' I'd of thought? - But it is what it is/what the central bankers of the world have run with in their collective wisdom; With which who am I to argue as a numptie know nothing? ... :)
I believe that it is good for the super rich when economies slow down at times as it is an opportunity to buy asset at rock bottom prices. It has always been the reason why I disagreed so heartily with those who thought it was a good thing to have a housing crash in this country.

Crashes enrich the richest and impoverish the young and the poorer home buyers who lose their good assets yet often still hold debt.

The super rich have done very well indeed on the back of the GFC and inequality has increased markedly.

Welcome back my lovely debating friend and good luck with the renovating - I am doing a bit myself while I can get some reasonable trades prices in Perth.

Jesus H Christo, just when I think you cannot say anything dumber.

What has been happening to government and private debt since the 90s genius?

What was the fastest growing industry since the 90s? Could it be construction work? Driven by debt fueled real estate bubbles?
Ya silly duffer it was driven by the growth in the population and the need for roads, homes, schools, hospitals, shops etc etc.

My my your posts get more and more full of the extreme doomster nonsense every day.

These doomsters seriously believe that economies based around the needs of its people are not real economies - they are crazy altogether.

So on the one hand you throw your hands up and say "well yep, its not fair that land's become more expensive, but it's all the fault of those nasty central bankers", and yet whenever someone mentions evening up the playing field via the introduction of a Georgist style land tax you bare your teeth and start effing and blinding about socialist scum.

You're a hypocrote Herbie. A nasty rent-seeking piece of filth, that hides behind the veneer of a hardworking everyman who built his prosperity by saving pennies in a jar.
Now you show your own colours with a disgraceful personal attack- you are just a jealous man who has been foolish with your own financial decisions and you are full to the brim with resentment against those who have carefully planned for their retirement. You just hate normal people who are more successful than you and you wish misfortune to strike them - you are not interested in a level playing field at all. You argue against every single thing that would help a poorer person build up some property assets.

You have promised all those in your real life that your wisdom and arrogance is superior to all those home buying plebs that surround you - only to find that pride does indeed come before a fall. This is why you are so bitter and unless you stop sucking doomster lemons you will remain this way all your life.

There will be no crash there will be no misfortune striking homebuyers and loading up your pockets with cash - you were a fool to fall for such propaganda. You followed the herd throughout the GFC and now you are too prideful to know when it is time to let go of those silly notions.

Dont be silly Loki - sometimes I think you have no idea how the world works - robots/machines replaced millions if not billions of jobs over the last 50 years - yet here we are working longer hours than ever.

People make themselves busy it is part of our social instincts to work and bad for our mental health not to contribute to society or family.

If you are relying on robots to bring you a property crash you really are clutching at straws.

Definition of a doom and gloomer from 1993
The last camp is made up of the doom-and-gloomers. Their slogan is "it's the end of the world as we know it". Right now they are convinced that debt is the evil responsible for all our economic woes and must be eliminated at all cost. Many doom-and-gloomers believe that unprecedented debt levels mean that we are on the precipice of a worse crisis than the Great Depression. The doom-and-gloomers hang on the latest series of negative economic data.

No, I think you are about average. And about average can be replaced by a robot pretty easy.

Coming from you, there is no greater compliment. You seem to struggle with concepts as simple as supply and demand. Or is that "not how the world works"?

Social engineering. 95% of the work isn't necessary. It's just to keep people off the streets and stop them breeding with each other. Work has become a social program, deliberately engineered, to maintain culture. Uptight Sky-Godders are afraid of people having sex because they think the social order will completely collapse without the institution of marriage. And who knows, they could even be right, for the wrong reasons.

Hence the rise and rise of mental illness. Most people have no purpose. They intuitively sense the purposelessness of their "job" and their place in society. When the stress gets bad enough, they will even rush off to war to relieve the sense of nothingness.

Well, I've got 'working class roots' as it happens (misinterpret THAT as it suits you - LOL)

And even still retain a bit of empathy for Socialism of the old fashioned kind that tried to give the worker a half reasonable chance to get ahead. As opposed to creating a permanent underclass bunch of bludgers our current pollies can buy votes off.

It's one thing to accept the inevitable perhaps Loki? But something just a tad more extreme to be actively celebrating it/salivating over the prospect.

But anyway, yep, as I've said to you before "What will be will be."

The past is a prison for the mind. Go back far enough in my family tree and at least one ancestor came out to this country in chains. I could care less.

That is a mass of contradictions, but it pretty much boils down to everyone's philosophy: What's In It For Me?

Lot's of people celebrate getting wealthier at someone else's expense. Look at the property bulls on this forum. They revel in it. It's not extreme at all, it's perfectly normal behaviour. Even you celebrate how fucking awesome your family is and much you will prosper when 50 million Asians immigrate here because you are so fucking awesomely competitive. I don't think your hypocrisy is deliberate, I think you are just very conflicted.

Yeah, well, we will see how ambivalent you are when it's not going your way.

Ah well Loki, at the end of the day, the proof of the pudding is in the eating - Drop back and tell me when you've got a few runs on the board.

So the only thing that counts as a "run" is a property?

No wonder children are eating their parents in Perth. They've been told the only thing that counts is property ownership, and if they have to turf the olds out onto the street to get runs on the board, then goddamit, they are winners, not whiners! They had their time!

That hadn't actually crossed my mind.

But anyway:

* If you've got a convict ancestor, your mob's been here a while, so not exactly deprived of opportunities, and

* If you recall the Sydney pub scene from 1987, you've been there for a while, so not exactly deprived of opportunities, and

* By your own estimation at least, you aren't especially mentally deficient in any way, so not exactly deprived of opportunities, and

* Being pretty obviously not young anymore, have had plenty of time to make the best of all your opportunities.

Yet you don't seem to have made much of any of all this? To the point where you talk about bolting OS where things will be better for you/you'll have more opportunity or whatever?

Dunno Loki? I just get the impression that whatever you've been doing doesn't seem to have been working for you?

Certainly not to the point where I'd be at all keen to take any financial pointers from you for myself!

And about all I can suggest is that whatever you've been doing, maybe stop doing it quite like you have been and try doing things a bit different?

You have no idea what I have done or haven't done in that time. I haven't purchased a property, so you assume I have done nothing and am destitute.

Good lord no! That would be like Warren Buffett taking financial pointers from a grapefruit.

That is an amazing piece of advice, but if it is OK with you, I would like to keep taking care of my children's health and well being. I know I should really just drop them in foster care and go out and make some money and buy twenty properties, but I would rather not. Is that OK with you? Please sir, just a few more years and then I will really try hard to live my life exactly like you. Please?

The Whole Truth

You're an idiot timmy. The unemployment is hidden in carers allowances, sole parent payments, austudy loafers and 900, 000 disability support payments a large proportion of which are people that just don't want to work. There are other special categories but we all know the truth of it and how many people can only get part time bitz of work.

You're an idiot.
If you just came out and admitted you don't understand how the unemployment figure is calculated, you could at least claim to be ignorant but not proud of it.

But it sounds a lot like you're ready to defend your stupidity...
