I wouldn't be downplaying it, Francis. The mortality rate is 90% and it spreads easily. You can do everything asked of you — eat well, exercise and live healthy — and still be killed. If this thing gets loose in the US it will be mayhem.

Not downplaying it at all Just not shitting my pants over it like some

We all have to die of something I could walk out side and get hit by a truck - I would think that would be 100% mortality rate.

The UN has warned the world has just 60 days to get Ebola under control, or face an “unprecedented situation for which we don’t have a plan”.
A new report issued by the organisation’s health arm, the World Health Organisation, says the virus “is running faster than us and it is winning the race” as it sweeps West Africa and has begun to make its way across the globe.
Speaking at the UN Security Council yesterday, the UN’s deputy Ebola co-ordinator Anthony Banbury outlined critical goals for the December deadline.
“The WHO advises within 60 days we must ensure 70 per cent of infected people are in a care facility and 70 per cent of burials are done without causing further infection,” he said.
It’s the first time the UN has created a mission in response to a public health crisis, warning the goals must be completed or “a lot more people will die”.
Banbury said he was “deeply, deeply concerned” that all of the efforts so far won’t be enough to stop the outbreak.
The warning comes as the number of cases of Ebola has hit the 9000 mark, the deadly virus killing more than half it has affected.
Don't worry about ISIS or Russia in the Ukraine or China Ebola is the threat.
The projections are wrong, as it does not factor an outbreak in the US or Europe. As we are seeing now Ebola is spreading in the US and remains to be seen if it can be contained. The 2nd nurse travelled on a plane with 132 other people while she had a temperature which means she was contagious. The CDC is now trying to track down those 132 people, they will need to be contained (quarantined) for 3 weeks to see if anyone develops the virus. Who knows how many more people she might have infected in the Airport while departing and arriving. Did she cough and leave the virus on a bench only for some one else to touch it and then rub there eyes. Ebola does not last long outside the body but it is in tiny droplets, a sneeze, cough can spread it if it transmitted inside the body of another person.
Watch for news on these plan passengers, if we see more cases in the US then it will spread out of control as the US has a highly mobile population, you cannot contain it. As we have seen in the Hospitals one small mistake can lead to an outbreak or maybe the virus is spreading in a way we do not understand yet. The Governments are over confident in the ability for health workers to contain it, mistakes happen.
If this does spread in the US it will spread around the world rapidly, simply due to the amount of air flights in and out of the US daily. Ebola has an incubation period of up to 3 weeks, meaning travellers for 3 weeks could move around the world with the virus and you would not know until you started to get a fever. In this case you would start to see cases appear world wide at the same time due to travellers from the US spreading it.
If it does spread in the US the only way to prevent a world wide contagion is to shut down global airlines and sea lanes for 3-4 weeks.
This is by far the greatest risk to the world and the economy. Oh I forgot to mention Obama has cancelled his schedule for today and tomorrow. Not attending fund raisers for the democrats.
You know it is serious when a President clears 2 days to deal with the crisis.
I agree it's a far bigger threat than geopolitical tensions. Some sort of sanity stemming from self-preservation usually pulls politicians back from the brink. But when a virus with a 90% mortality rate spreads easily, and uncontrollably, there are no comparisons. It's time to stock up on non-perishables.

Yes I have already started a few weeks ago. Every week just buying more and more, stuff we will use anyway in time.
I think everyone should be thinking about having enough supplies in your home for 3-4 weeks as that is what will happen if we have an outbreak. Confined to properties except emergency services. Starting buying small now and if you dont use it, well you are stocked up for Christmas and the New Year anyway.
