Is the wealth management institution that did the research advertising in those media blogs and articles? A bit like the tobacco companies did with their research claiming that smoking was harmless.
Bottom line is that regardless of their intention, it is unlikely there will be much to leave anyways...lol
First link: "The survey ... conducted by the investment firm U.S. Trust" - So another investment sales pitch presumably
Third link: Some waffly bullshit lifestyle sales pitch that references "A survey conducted by US investment advisers TD Ameritrade" - So basically just more of the same
Second link: Some recent (but basically decade plus old 'more of the same' twaddle) drawn from Natsem whose stuff AMP drew their 2003 investment advice sales pitch to BBs from (given THEIR mas 'n pas weren't going to leave them any loot) - As highlighted by yourself when you spruiked this tired old link Paul: http://www.natsem.canberra.edu.au/storage/AMP_NATSEM_05.pdf
It's crap. Total and unadulterated ongoing mindless financial advisory (and lifestyle) industry self feeding ever repeating and unending crap! WHAT A LOAD OF EFFING CRAP!!!

Anecdotally - I can't think of anyone from any generation that wants to spend everything to do their kids out of an inheritance. I do hear some who are very concerned about the high cost of nursing homes and retirement villages that were much cheaper years ago, and they worry that they mightn't have much to pass on, but whatever happens certainly won't be intentional.
Maybe Pauls lot only surveyed elderly couples with horrid spoilt kids.

Yet again you post from a financial advice source that seeks to sell savings products. They are a vested interest with intents to sell savings products to young people by frightening them into thinking they will get little inheritance and also to older people to save more by selling them sad stories about young people.
I ask again do you sell these products?
Of course inheritances decreased after 2006 there was a massive financial crash which decimated savings.
Definition of a doom and gloomer from 1993 The last camp is made up of the doom-and-gloomers. Their slogan is "it's the end of the world as we know it". Right now they are convinced that debt is the evil responsible for all our economic woes and must be eliminated at all cost. Many doom-and-gloomers believe that unprecedented debt levels mean that we are on the precipice of a worse crisis than the Great Depression. The doom-and-gloomers hang on the latest series of negative economic data.
Ok, so Peter and Scabby have established that anyone selling financial products should not be believed.
You sell mortgages don't you Peter?...lol
Pauk you are the only member of this board (excpting one other) who constantly denigrates Peter due to his job. Yet you yourself constantly pitch these articles from financial advisory sources yet you will not answer the question when asked do you work in this field?

Education apps scabby. Never sold a financial product in my life and never will. Too dirty a game for me.

Well it's certainly not too dirty for me Paul, I enjoy helping people, and helping them with their financial troubles is one of the best ways to make a real difference in the quality of their lives.
But I get it that you will never understand that. You sell em some beauty cream Paul, that should fix their troubles.

Only skimmed through this thread ... just more stupid whinges from Pauk. I'm surprised he hasn't proposed that pensioner's house prices should be assessed at what they purchased it for ... after all, any gains are vapor and non existent till the property is sold
I put trolls and time wasters on my ignore list so if I don't respond to you, you are probably on it ....
There won't be any "proof" from either side until the Boomers start dropping dead in reasonable numbers, and leaving estates worth nothing (per Pauk) or worth quite non-trivial amounts (per just about everyone else on this thread).
Until that happens, all is theory and conjecture on both sides.
But even before such proof becomes available, there are two particularly weak aspects to Pauk's theory and conjecture that deserve further examination.
1) Pauk is at great pains to stick to an absolutist view of Boomer intentions regarding estates: in his world, they'll leave nothing. That's clearly ridiculous, but what if it's partially true, i.e. that Boomers may leave *proportionally* less of their accumulated lifetime wealth to their offspring than their parents' generation did?
Would that actually matter? Boomers on average are *much* wealthier than their parents were, in both absolute and relative terms. Even if some choose to spend a greater amount on themselves, in retirement, than their parents would have, will that actually leave less inheritable wealth for Gen X and Y? I seriously doubt it.
2) Pauk attributes this reluctance to leave inheritances *only* to the Boomers. None of his posts, or links, have provided any remotely lucid explanation for this. If there has indeed been a sea-change in attitudes towards retirement spending patterns and intended wealth transfers to offspring, why does Pauk think it is magically connected to a particular finite set of birth years? Why won't the sea-change continue with Gen X and Gen Y?
