I mean let's face it - if we're all heading for the skids (and those that have read my posts know that this is my prediction for next year) then why bleat on about it incessantly?

Let's just convert what's left of the paper gains into the real folding stuff, and have an effing great Jordan Belfort style party blow-off, instead of spending our final days of prosperity listening to all these po-faced portents of doom.

Wankers.

"It were not best that we should all think alike; it is difference of opinion that makes horse races." - Mark Twain on why he avoids discussing house prices over at MacroBusiness.
"Buy land, they're not making any more of it." - Georgist Land Tax proponent Mark Twain laughing in his grave at humourless idiots like skamy that continually use this quip to justify housing bubbles.

I hear you, but it is amusing to watch the show. Did you see the GFC coming? I was tipped off, a little early mind but I got safe. This next one will be the big one and it's going to be such a shakeup of society I can't even imagine the outcome. I think we will see bailouts of banks by depositers so your money might not be safe anywhere unless it's offshore or in gold say. Both of those have their risks but the risks are less than in the corporate banking system I think.

And now this treasury plan to replace all the $100 and $50 bills? What if they put a timeline on it? Have your bills swapped by x/x/2015 or lose them altogether? That will flush out all those hiding hundreds of thousands off the books. Game set and match. I know it's a stretch but the Chinese and vietnamese are huge cash hoarders, all that money passing through all those small food businesses, declare it and pay lots of tax or hide it and pay nothing. Tax evasion is a way of life in those countries and plenty of native born aussies do it too.

Not me though :)

We live on the very thin and cracked crust of a lump of molten rock that circles a giant ball of fire.

What could possibly go wrong?
Matthew, 30 Jan 2016, 09:21 AM Your simplistic view is so flawed it is not worth debating. The current oversupply will be swallowed in 12 months. By the time dumb shits like you realise this prices will already be :?: rising.

Im not sure what I'll buy.

I really like fishing, and estuary prawn trawling is sweet!

When tshtf that is an industry that gets really hammered, same with vineyards, and boy, haven't they been doing it tough already!

Maybe pick up a trufflerie or two? I rrckon there will be sone good deals there.

Best to purchase luxury targetted primary producing businesses when times are bad, and nurse them through.

Should imagine I might pick up some good marino bloodlines when high end suit manufacturing exits the scene for a bit. A bad drought at the wrong time over the next couple of years. .....

So many things to think about.

My personal favourite comes from the RBA: house prices can go up and down. I don't think anyone can equal Stevens for his earnest delivery of each and every line.

Guess it all depends what you are into.

Maybe you like yachts- you could buy a marina?

Maybe aircraft? A few hangers, a workshop and a collection of planes might be right up your alley?

Or a resort somewhere, shit some of them have already been looking cheap :lol

I haven't checked, but would assume earth moving equipment has been getting cheaper already?

Government loves building roads and rail in bad downturns :lol

I never slow down and gawk at accidents on the side of the road, that's the easiest way to get into one yourself. But this is different, watching the collapse of western society is like being involved in history as it's written. In the years ahead I can sit around the fireplace, or aircon in the case of global warming, and tell the grandchildren rich tales of how millions of Australians went mad in the head in pursuit of a dream based on greed and laziness.

Doom and gloom sells clicks.

I don't generally believe fringe opinion when the current state and immediate future can be adequately explained by common sense and mainstream theory.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.

Forum Rules: The main forum may be used to discuss property, politics, economics and finance, precious metals, crypto currency, debt management, generational divides, climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, environmental topics, human rights or social justice issues, and other topics on a case by case basis.
