Now that would be something.

Thinking about it, the Irish must be watching this very closely.

The Royalists must be gob smacked by the potential.

But Oliver must be enjoying this from the other side.

I wonder if the Union flag will change and if so, will Aus adopt it.

I think the royals will have arranged for a good deal either way, sweaty Betty will still collect her rents. The Irish independence movement is very much a shadow of its former self, and when you think about the recent troubles in Northern Ireland it achieved nothing the six counties remained in English control and all they got for their efforts was a few seats in parliament. With Tony Blair seizing the moment and the glory of the Good Friday accord.

I wouldn't put it past our our very own born in London royal big ears (not Charlie) to suggest tha twe chaneg the falg or soemthing stupid like that.

If he does, maybe it will prompt interest in a new flag ...

If Scotland vote yes then maybe one day Ireland will get the six counties back.
London would love nothing more than to be able to end the partition.

It is the protestant majority in NI that want it maintained. If a referendum was held in NI then it would be a resounding no vote.

Not sure I would agree that London would like to secede sovereignty of the six counties and yes I would agree that the majority of NI residents are loyal to London.

If London did want to secede then they wouldn't have went to the covert lengths that they did to defeat the independence fighters. The outcome of it all now is that London's defacto rule over the North and South has never been stronger, sweaty Betty even visited Ireland recently. British capital is once again quite safe in the Emerald Isle.

I had heard that the catholics were out breeding the prods, and would take majority soon. Ironic that fucking may work where bombing didn't.

NI has been a major thorn in the side of every British government since the 1960's. NI as a business venture is a disaster for the UK. It uses up far more than it contributes.

I wouldn't argue against that either.

What I am saying is that London very much want to keep the six counties. If they didn't then they would have ensured that they lost out against the insurgents during the troubles. They convinced the republicans do put down the armalites and take up the ballot box. They won the war, the republicans lost, some would say that they even sold out. The six counties remained under British jurisdiction, the republican movement was at peace and disarmed for the foreseeable future and the British sway over political, cultural and economic affairs was actually increased across the whole of Ireland.

The IRA chose the ballot box option because they were losing sympathy from the plastic Paddys in the USA.

They can't go back now either because the yanks now understand what terrorism is all about (not much fun when it is happening to you).

It will take a generation of no tit for tat killings before NI could consider a referendum that would garner enough protestant support to join with Eire.

England had a great empire in its day, amazing when you think about it. Such a tiny island and so few people yet they mastered India and China and many other populations. All due to technology of course, take away the rifles, cannon, and the sailing ships they were mounted on and England would have been nothing. I believe it was similar with the roman's and their advanced chariot designs, advanced military tactics.

Luckily we got to ride on the backs of the English and the Americans. I doubt we would have gotton far relying on the cardboard wine cask and the rubber thong.

"The IRA chose the ballot box option because they were losing sympathy from the plastic Paddys in the USA."

Yes Washington was a major player in this act of imperial gain, Perfidious Albion at its best. As was the southern political and bourgeois class actively influencing for the status quo and the defeat of the pesky and not good for business republicanism movement once and for all. British retailers need Irish consumers.

So the original point was that if Scotland does achieve independence, then maybe it will stir some now since forgotten republican views to re-emerge and new calls being made for the six counties to be handed back. Lets not forget that Scotland has also got a strong loyalist and protestant core as well and London don't want them to be independent either. Which might in the end be enough for the independent vote to be unsuccessful.
