A building boom in the inner Sydney apartment market is likely to peak in 2017 leaving the city with an oversupply of units, a new report has suggested.

As a result the value of both new and old apartments close to the city will fall 5 per cent in the two years to 2018, said its author Angie Zigomanis.

"Some people who own older apartments will experience a bigger decline," he said.

The Chinese build a lot of apartments over the last decade. Simply carrying on the old model building apartments is no indicator your economy is healthy, or they will be worth much in the decades to come.

It's the end of the cheap oil age and in the decade ahead there are going to be a lot of changes. Bulls here read the vampire study and laughed at the name but it's all coming true. Those far flung suburbs havent moved in price in years, soon they will contract once it's obvious the thousands of kilometers of side streets are not going to be replaced when they flog out.

A 100 year experiment seeng how many people we could breed on the planet, how many mineral resources we could deplete. Where do people think we are going to get cheap copper and steel and aluminium from in the next 100 years? We have mined most of the easily accessible plays, the rest is covered in thousands of feet of overburden. Quite a challenge for our future fleets of battery powered earthmovers.

It ridiculous to even debate the possibility. Once the last of the $100 oil is gone what's left will probably be sequestered for government and military use only. Houses lining bitumen roads will become worth next to nothing compared to arable land with access to water. Those survivalist type doom and gloomers are being proved right at every turn.
