But thanks for your well wishes skamy, I hope you have a nice day as well :) Theme park or movies, it will be a good day either way :)

I'm currently the owner's E&I Engineer for two gas processing facilities in QLD (5 trains). At the peak of construction we had 400 people on the books. The permenant operations team is about 25.

Not to mention the hundreds of people working for vendors manufacturing plant such as scrubbers, filters, spools etc.

Then there will be the NDT and surface treatment contractors, doc controllers, quality engineers, purchasing officers and everybody else involved off site.

The spin off work from resources construction is huge and most of that disappears once the site is up and running.
Matthew, 30 Jan 2016, 09:21 AM Your simplistic view is so flawed it is not worth debating. The current oversupply will be swallowed in 12 months. By the time dumb shits like you realise this prices will already be :?: rising.

Yep. Seen it all before.

Thing is, skamy would have seen it all before as well but she argues that this time will be different. She must know something we don't :)

Very true. The number I quoted only included the primary construction contractor engaged on-site. It did not include owner's contractor staff involved with construction and commissioning - there are about 100 of us for each gas processing facility.

It's Absolutely Fabulous if it includes brilliant locations, & high calibre tenants..what more does one want? Understand the power of the two "P"" or be financially challenged
Even better when there is family who are property mad and one is born in some entitlements.....Understand that beautiful women are the exhibitionists we crave attention, whilst hot blooded men are the voyeurs ... Banks are considered to be law abiding and & rather boring places yeah not true . A bank balance sheet will show capital is dwarfed by their liabilities this means when a portions of loans is falling its problems for the bank.

You need to be an expert to comment on something happening right in front of everyone's eyes?

I ever did say stuff was aways hunky dory.

But each to their own, that's all I'll say.

Hi Skammy.

I'm currently the owner's E&I Engineer for two gas processing facilities in QLD (5 trains). At the peak of construction we had 400 people on the books. The permenant operations team is about 25.

Gas plants are completely different to coal or iron ore washplants. They are very clean requiring minimal maintenance, and do not require the handling of bulk materials, stockpiling, continual washdown, clearing blocked chutes etc.

Gas field gathering is very similar. It takes a lot of labour to build pipelines, drill wells and install electrical reticulation, but from there maintenace is minimal and everything is automated.

There will be no jobs boom from CSG post construction phase. As a matter of fact all our operations positions were filled before we started bulk earthworks on site.

Cheers,
John
Why not sign in with your usual moniker? you gave yourself away as you could not resist a bit of name calling :D
Most projects seem to have somewhat better ratios of employment than the smaller facility in Queensland where you work as an I & E engineer.

The QCLNG Project is creating an average of 5000 jobs during the construction period and will employ around 1000 permanent staff for operations.

Did you know? The gas industry in Queensland is expected to contribute $516 billion to Australia's total economy between 2015 and 2035 [1].

[1] This means new jobs - about 20,000 full-time equivalent jobs each year by 2035. Queensland's income alone is expected to rise $342 billion, an average of $28,300 a person, thanks to natural gas. Source: Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association.

Maybe it is you who has been Lulled into some false impressions of the inability of the Gas industry to generate jobs long-term? The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association seem to disagree with your pessimistic assessments.

Quote:

Key economic findings Benefits expected to flow from the Gorgon Project based on a 30 year, 15 million tonne per annum, three train development include:
• Peak construction employment in Western Australia of around 6,000 with more than 3,500 direct and indirect jobs sustaining throughout the life of the Gorgon Project
• Australia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to be boosted by A$64.3 billion
• WA's Gross State Product to increase by 3.9%
• Locally purchased goods and services (local content) of A$33 billion
• Government revenue of about A$39.8 billion

http://www.chevronaustralia.com/docs/default-source/publications/gorgon/2008octnewsletter.pdf?sfvrsn=2

The main developers of Gorgon, Chevron Australia are building a huge new headquarters in Perth. They are expecting to make a lot of money here over the next 30 years and Gorgon is only one of their projects. It is naive to believe this will not have significant long term benefits for the local economy.

I am sure that for you the money making time for your boss's project is during the operational phase. WA large gas facilities nearing completion in WA are expected to deliver billions in government revenue and billions to the local economy for the next 30 years.

My point remains that house prices in WA are still at 2007 levels and much less than that in some areas. All of these long term Gas jobs and iron ore jobs were created since then. None of the extra revenue for the government was available in 2007. Why on earth should house prices retreat below those in 2007?

It is silly logic, Saudi, UAE and Qatar did not become wealthy when they were building their oil and gas facilities, they became wealthy when they started producing and selling oil and gas.

Definition of a doom and gloomer from 1993
The last camp is made up of the doom-and-gloomers. Their slogan is "it's the end of the world as we know it". Right now they are convinced that debt is the evil responsible for all our economic woes and must be eliminated at all cost. Many doom-and-gloomers believe that unprecedented debt levels mean that we are on the precipice of a worse crisis than the Great Depression. The doom-and-gloomers hang on the latest series of negative economic data.

All of which use nationalised companies, as in, the government of their respective countries either wholly, or mostly owns the operation...

Again, ask any one of the 80% of Nigerians who live below the poverty line, how having Chevron and Shell contracted to extract their resources has brought prosperity and wealth to the country with the largest supply of oil in Africa.
