Our government needs to get a backbone and increase taxes!

Our government needs to get a backbone, stop pandering to politics & expediency and make significant changes rather than just tinkering at the edges of a broken funding model. With a focus on fairness and equity – especially cross-generational equity and wage vs capital earning equity, we can fix the budget whilst setting up the country’s future productive capacity.

1. Abolish negative gearing (at least ring-fence so only against property income; initially could be restricted to one property per household)

2. Redress super-concessions

3. Remove capital gains tax concessions

4. Reintroduce carbon tax or an ETS (an economically efficient way of dealing with pollution)

5. Broaden taxes on “super profits” e.g. mining, banks

6. Simplify the welfare system whilst protecting the most vulnerable

7. Remedy distortions that prevent return to work (e.g. revisit childcare & family payments)

Tax income generated could then be redirected to building the productive capacity of our economy – in R&D, new economy innovations, high technology industries and infrastructure. We can create jobs, boost productivity and move beyond housing.

Shame our politicians are so beholden to the media cycle and interest groups rather than the national interest.

I'm sure your heart is in the right place, but that is a stunningly naive post.

While it's true that those who win never quit, and those who quit never win, those who never win and never quit are idiots.

We could always have a crack at running with the novel thought of "From each according to his ability; And to each according to his needs" I guess??? ... :(

Easy...

1. Land tax 1% $150 billion to $200 billion
2. GST to 20%, another $100 billion.

Abolish stamps, paye threshold at $80k and give welfare a kick in the arse up.

There is nothing more absurd than thinking that public servants could possibly know how to best invest capital.

It should also be initiative.

There's alwys those who know what's happening, & those who keep wondering what's happenning.
Newjerk? can you try harder than dig up another person's blog. My first promo was with Billabong and my name in English is modified with a T, am Perth born but also lived in Sydney to make my $$
It's Absolutely Fabulous if it includes brilliant locations, & high calibre tenants..what more does one want? Understand the power of the two "P"" or be financially challenged
Even better when there is family who are property mad and one is born in some entitlements.....Understand that beautiful women are the exhibitionists we crave attention, whilst hot blooded men are the voyeurs ... A stunning woman can command and takes pleasure in being noticed. Seems not too many understand what it means to hold and own props and get threatened by those who do.
Banks are considered to be law abiding and & rather boring places yeah not true . A bank balance sheet will show capital is dwarfed by their liabilities this means when a portions of loans is falling its problems for the bank.

Initiative is paramount to anyone, because it's their backbone to what defines them.

No one wants to suport the bludgers.

It's easy for a single person with no children to take off if the going gets tough...oz is home to me until these young ones do ok.

There's some who simply can't be bothered working, & there's those like my Brothers apprentice who Has his eyes glued to his phone texting & checking naughty pictures with his GF or looking at face sooky. He needs to be constantly remained to focus on his work..sad really. .

We're not there yet Blondie. But given that there's lots who reckon we should go there, just maybe ask your old man what his thoughts are on remaining flexible as to your thoughts on where might be a nice place to live? - Irrespective of what your kids' ages are.

Why do we pay any taxes at all?

Why do we get taxed for going to work and earning money?

Why do we have to pay more tax on top when we spend our money?

Why do we need so many layers of government?
Matthew, 30 Jan 2016, 09:21 AM Your simplistic view is so flawed it is not worth debating. The current oversupply will be swallowed in 12 months. By the time dumb shits like you realise this prices will already be :?: rising.
