Interesting. Are you bidding on South Stream also?
I am guessing that the Trans Anatolian will need to go through Georgia, given the ongoing conflict with Armenia.
Haven't seen any good EROI numbers for UCG. The advantage of UCG over shale is that there is a LOT more coal than shale gas, but I haven't seen any syngas conversions better than 30%, and then there is the 17-25% of carbon monoxide in the syngas. We have been producing syngas from coal above ground for a long time. Not very efficient, but easy to do, just have to take a wait and see approach on UCG. Could be good, could be another low energy, high cost bubble to make investment bankers rich like shale.
As for abiotic oil, well, I did a lot of research on that about 8 years ago, both pro and con, and came to the conclusion that it is probably a crock. Modern spectral analysis on crude oil indicates it is mostly likely Jurasic algae.
Not bidding south stream yet. We are a small player on these lines.
Yes it goes through Georgia, the section we are bidding starts at the Georgian border and goes through Turkey.
I have been on the UCG pilot plant at Chinchilla in QLD and they are well advanced with improvement to the syn gas composition. There model is based on the liquefaction of the syn gas for transport to market. There are undoubtedly some major environment hurdles with this extraction process, especially in Australia. The EROI is about 11 times higher than coal seam gas given that it actually utilities the entire coal seam as opposed to only the gas trapped in the pores. I am aware of proposed schemes in Indonesia where there are lesser environmental hurdles whereby the syn gas powers on site generators for mine sites. This not only provides free power it also increase the value of the existing coal asset. There are some other Australian proposals that involve very deep UCG in order that leachates cannot ingress into water seams.
Not the place to get into an abiotic debate around here, at least the algae theory is a bit more palatable than crushed up dead dinosaurs and trees. Still it doesn't explain methane hydrates up-welling fromm below the ocean sea beds or methane lakes on Titan though.
