Hey, we had a good run - Went off to the mines for 5 yrs, 10 yrs, 20 yrs or whatever. Saved hard. Bought a debt free house or two. Whacked a half a mill, a mill, a mill plus or whatever in the bank.
Didn't we? ...
The crusties that listened to their oldies Herbs.
WHAT WOULD EDDIE DO? MAAAATE! Share a cot with Milton?

I think there are a lot of wet walls around the place Herbie.
Whenever you have an argument with someone, there comes a moment where you must ask yourself, whatever your political persuasion, 'am I the Nazi?'

The smart ones did - that's what you should do with a windfall. Problem was, many didn't see it as a windfall, they saw it as normal, certain and permanent - unchanging except in the direction of further improvement.
Could have bought a nice, comfortable home debt free and pretty much lived the life of Riley. But no, it had to be the biggest Mcmansion possible plus a couple of investment properties, $100 000 4WD, fully sick jet ski.....you know, you can't let other high income earners think you're a peasant or something. So don't use the big money to own your home outright in fairly short order - use the big money to borrow bigger again! What could possibly ever go wrong?
I wonder what mad scam the government will dream up to prop it up.
One of the Eastern states is putting in a subsidy for gambling clubs to provide child care facilities inside with the poker machine rooms, they call it cradle to grave gambling.
I mean that requires some brain power.
And just think the get gst from Western Australia to do it.
Next they will be fitting pipes to peoples arses and running them back into their stomaches to recycle the food.

"It were not best that we should all think alike; it is difference of opinion that makes horse races." - Mark Twain on why he avoids discussing house prices over at MacroBusiness. "Buy land, they're not making any more of it." - Georgist Land Tax proponent Mark Twain laughing in his grave at humourless idiots like skamy that continually use this quip to justify housing bubbles.
Their problem; Not mine - At least as in so far as it doesn't drive the RBA to force the IR down on me cash holdings in the RBA's banks a lot more anyway ...

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.
