I think it is time for a party to push a firm real market economy, address the plethora of rorts in the pseudo Tories we have (on both the Torynuff and ALParatchik side of the house)
I think what is needed is some public activism. In the first instance I would start with something which is in the misdemeanour league, while being reasonably funny for a section of the community.
People to start turning up at Auctions with loudhailers (in the high profile Sydney and Melbourne suburbs in particular) with a view to asking pointed questions of Auction participants. FIRB/visa related questions, negative gearing related questions and SMSF related questions for starters.
I think that turning up with a loudhailer to get up the nose of major politicians wherever we can with exhortations on the subject would also be a good idea.
We need a sort of good PR guy to go around and provide public addresses and lecture schools on political related subject with a view to framing the way school leavers see their plight. We would want some tech savvy social media types as well to frame and carry out a disciplined campaign.
We are reaching what I would consider a purple patch for creating such a new party, I would look for the period between when the Sydney./Melbourne property market reaches a peak and the next election. I would also propose running senate candidates in as many states as possible.
Getting into the minds of the rest of Australia with some consistent messaging would be the place to start…….(You could do these as bumper stickers even)
‘Are you setting your kids up for failure?’
‘Do you want to pay off a mega mortgage as a casual elderly care worker? Where is Australia’s economy?’
‘Are we taxing our future to pay for our present?’
‘Why isn’t FIRB even looking at buyers of Australian real estate?’
‘Negative Gearing of residential property is a tax rort!’
‘Are we beating up single mothers to fund tax concessions for wealthy super recipients?’
‘Are we fleecing the sick to fund tax concessions for wealthy super recipients?’
For those of you interested I have recently been snowed under with work from OS, and have a day gig in addition to this, but I will get back to a project which is essentially making a documentary which I want to call
‘Never been a better time to buy: Australia’s economic future and the real estate corpse it carries.’
I have drafted it up, I have a kid lined up to start filming, and I have a graphics guy who can recreate charts in video for me. I can narrate it (but would be happy for another front man if anyone would like the in vision gig)
If anyone out there (particularly in places away from Melbourne) knows a bit about video/camera work, I wouldnt mind some B roll of housing estates and and things like crowded infrastructure, heavy traffic in Sydney Perth Brisbane etc.
Beyond that I am trying to get some influential people to talk about the subject. I would want some economists, business people, housing industry types, bankers to talk about various factors at play. I have a Victorian State public and an APS (Treasury) guy (both senior enough to create discomfort) who have indicated they would talk. Ultimately I would need some vox pops from people who have attended auctions and gone through the house buying/selling process- if any real estate agent would like to talk about or mortgage broker wants to explore some issues that would be of interest too.
If anyone would like to take part in an auction as a bidder and have the whole thing filmed and to openly at an auction question the FIRB credentials of other bidders – preferably at a nice expensive place in Sydney or Melbourne, or to ask likewise difficult questions of successful bidders about whether they are negative gearing of using SMSFs then by all means let me know.
The game plan would be to have the documentary made – and made with such people, production values, and conceptual soundness that it couldn't be lightly dismissed – to be made available in the public domain at a point between where the Australian real estate market is blowing off and the lead in to the next election. The intent would be to quite overtly make as many politicians as possible – both sides of politics – profoundly uncomfortable and to the greatest extent possible, have the general public, particularly the younger general public asking some seriously pointed questions of them.
My current view is that there would not be a broadcast outlet which would take on what I have in mind – and I am not pitching to that market. It will not be a doco which makes money. I can potentially organise some international media exposure.
I have mentioned this before. If anyone is interested my twitter is @notgunnamatta my email is Not.Gunnamatta@gmail.com
I don't think letter writing is going to cut it (though I am more than prepared to give it a try) and I think it will require some public sacrifices to sink the message home.
That's a lot of writing with little or no real insight as to how you will achieve an end, or even a beginning for that matter. You are ranting about all the worlds wise like a 17yr old socialist, intellegent enough to see the issue, not so much to understand it's complexity and all the angst to want to try and fix it.
I find it funny you truly believe the country is run by governments. You want things to change but Austalua is now in the same position as America, we are essentially ungovernable. Banks, miners and duopolies control this country and dictate who is on government and what policies or agenda's they will pursue.
A government was elected on an environment policy that upset miners. The same miners use their stake in media to deliver a negative image of the governments policies and creates a continuos campaign of hate and misinformation forming public opinion until that policy is changed or the party expelled. It is a shining example of how big business will dictate whether you are elected, the only reason why Palmer got in is because he has the boil lions to play ball, I'm guessing you do not.
NG for example is the banks cash cow, you run on a policy to remove it and even if you got traction for a short while the might of the big 4 would see you and your campaign hopes smashed into insignificance.
Look at Obama care, he ran a policy to improve a health care system that allowed the middle class and poor who didn't have insurance to die on hospital floors. To improve a system that allowed millions to die because they couldn't get medicine that their insurer decided was unnecessary. The insurers and pharmaceutical companies are so powerful they were able to spend billions on advertising to America and convinced people that it's in their best interests to vote down Obama care to a point where it was so insignificant it might as well not even be a policy issue.
I think you are misguided if you think that a political party can make significant social changes in such a commercial controlled world.
Newjerk? can you try harder than dig up another person's blog. My first promo was with Billabong and my name in English is modified with a T, am Perth born but also lived in Sydney to make my $$ It's Absolutely Fabulous if it includes brilliant locations, & high calibre tenants..what more does one want? Understand the power of the two "P"" or be financially challenged Even better when there is family who are property mad and one is born in some entitlements.....Understand that beautiful women are the exhibitionists we crave attention, whilst hot blooded men are the voyeurs ... A stunning woman can command and takes pleasure in being noticed. Seems not too many understand what it means to hold and own props and get threatened by those who do. Banks are considered to be law abiding and & rather boring places yeah not true . A bank balance sheet will show capital is dwarfed by their liabilities this means when a portions of loans is falling its problems for the bank.
