I think (as do some of you) that it is time for some independent types in parliament.
I think I have a solid chance of getting elected on this platform. This is what I would stand for.
Economic/Budget policies
A balanced budget over an economic cycle
The development of economic policy which makes clear the effect of the current on future generations and sets clear goals for the 10 and 30 year periods (First among them being ‘Our kids inherit a more competitive and diverse economy than we have now’)
An agreement with the RBA which will leave them in charge of monetary policy but force them to make clear when they believe fiscal measures should be considered, and which then needs to overtly addressed by parliament (in which they overtly come out and say ‘this is the limit of monetary policy’). The same agreement will require them to identify risks to their conceptual framework and identify limitations and risk management strategies.
Removal of Australian government support for banking sector unless on a commercial basis
Removal of middle class welfare spending
Creation of a welfare commission – articulating outlays and beneficiaries and economic impact of all government transfers.
Increased support for exporting or import competing Australian businesses which produce services or goods
No new free trade agreements unless approved by a ¾ majority of parliament, and revisit of existing policies (no new agreements which impact on pharmaceutical benefits scheme)
Defence spending of 2% of GDP – and clear support for industries which have an impact on defence strategic viability.
Establishment of a capital inflows veracity requirement. This will mandate that all funds brought into Australia have been acquired by processes which would be consistent with ‘Australian values’ and would be legal in Australia. Any funds found to have been acquired though processes which would not be legal in Australia (ie contravene Australian consumer protection, trade practices or competition laws) would deprive the applicant of the right to enter Australia. This would also require the establishment of a National Funds Veracity Commission and Register (which would identify all sums greater than 10,000 and the persons [not companies] bringing the funds to Australia)
A royal commission into Australian housing and the real estate sector to look at effective levels of government support, the impact this has had and is having on the real estate market, and the effect this market is having on other sectors of the economy.
The creation of a Federal Migration Commission with the role of establishing a clear balance and link between infrastructure development and land development and usage and relate this to migration intake. The same would also on an annual basis (in conjunction with Treasury) identify the economic impact of immigration at current levels and identify optimum future levels of immigration in relation to infrastructure and land development scenarios.
The establishment of a National Australian Unauthorised Migrant Detention Centre at or near Port Augusta (or somewhere out of the way) where all non authorised immigrants are detained and assessed and which is suitably staffed vis hospitals schools medical and social facilities BUT where people passing through there will only be allowed to reside within 150 Klm of the facility for 10 years, unless they are invited to be employed elsewhere in Australia. The number of people passing through this establishment to be recognised appropriately in all immigration policies and processes [and budgeted for].
Establishment of National Ageing Commission identifying ageing issues, costs of these and to incorporate ageing issues into the budget statement each year clearly.
Real Estate
Land tax
Reduction in migration until an economic development policy is presented – ie an economic case is made about the need for increased migrants,
Removal of Negative Gearing and Capital Gains Tax concessions
Removal of state and local government bottlenecks on land development
The creation of a Foreign National Real Estate Register making it mandatory for all real estate purchases (regardless of size) to be on the register where residents are not Australian citizens or Australian visa holders – with all contracts instantly declared null and void where and whenever it is found that any property is not appropriately identified. The NRER will (where corporations purchase real estate) identify individuals deriving a direct benefit from and company to a level of 2% of the company.
Urban decentralisation policies
A clear commitment to relocating existing government departments to regional centres
Other
Pro-gay rights (i.e. they have exactly the same rights as anyone else to marry etc.)
Establishment of a National Indigenous Peoples Economic Development Commission
Creation of a National Media Commission (which will impose a fit and proper person requirement for all media proprietors, and will impose a requirement that media proprietors do not have a presence in any major state market [or nationally] of more than 25% of the market) – introduction of the national commentary on unauthorised migrants in the national media test – only those who have spent 2 hours (internet media) 5 hours (print media) or 10 hours (broadcast media) on a surf board in waters of a depth of not less than 4 metres off the coast of Margaret River [WA] can comment in the media on unauthorised migration.
A focus on returning some federal responsibilities to states (all education, health and aged care included) along with some taxing powers to states.
Clear support for the ABC – but with decentralisation of ABC news/current affairs functions from Sydney.
Establishment of National Land Use Commission to look at land use and to review every building above 2 stories in Australia with regard to grotesqueness and prepare (at owners expense) an ugly management plan for the building.
An Australian Economic Beneficiaries Register to review every Australian publically listed company and identify the economic beneficiaries with a view to identifying Gold Class (>90 Australian Beneficiary) Silver, Bronze, Tin and Clay Class (<10% Australian beneficiary) Australian listed entities and to facilitate the input of gold and silver class companies into national economic decisionmaking processes.
Establishment of a National Corporate Bullshido Commission to identify those responsible for utter bullshido on behalf of companies or industries and hold them accountable
The establishment of the National Dob in small Business Owner who is a Prick hotline (will subsequently be allowed to relocate small business to within 150klm of the National Unauthorised immigrants detention centre)
and the National dob in a waste of space employee hotline (where these will be given grounds maintenance positions within 150klm of the National Unauthorised immigrants detention centre)
Another thing I would mandate is that all public servants may only remain in the public service for 7 years at a time, and that after that seven years they need to spend at least 3 years elsewhere before they can rejoin the public service.
Nobody would reach the SES levels of the APS without being able to demonstrate periods outside the APS.
All individuals would have access to a reduction in income tax (some form of concessionary arrangement) where they can show that they have spent one year in the public service in every ten years of employment.
(the idea of the above two being that my experience is that too many public service types have sweet FA idea about the non public sector and that too many peoples outside the public sector know sweet FA about the public sector and the constraints they operate under)
All politicians have a component of their pension schemes dependent on the success of policies they have voted for during their parliamentary careers.
All political figures found subsequently to have been engaged in corruption have their assets and those of their families potentially at risk.
When all is said and done I am probably the kind of guy who should be considering politics.
There needs to be a little revolutionary fervor – but rather than being a revolutionary leader (and I have lived through them OS) I would be more inclined to restrain myself to just cropping up at inopportune moments for those trying to contain an incipient revolution with the occasional incendiary and sharing the love around.
But I wouldn't mind running for parliament as a stalking horse heavily laden with unelectable policies, if I thought it would create space for more electorate savvy individual to appear reasonable enough to get elected, and point to my very existence (even if in the most publicly obnoxious and disparaging of terms) in order to generate some wider awareness of issues currently getting quality time with a gimp in Australia’s conceptual cellar.
Australia’s problem is not so much migration (of whatever size) but the utter lack of infrastructure planning that the immigration seems to be channeled into, and in particular the real estate bottleneck and rentseeker checkpoint which currently sees the most sparsely populated continent with the highest residential land costs, and which is using the immigration level to sustain the residential real estate investment ponzi. That is Australia’s biggest issue with immigration such as it is – not the immigration per se, but the lack of planning about infrastructure supporting it, and lack of consideration about what we all do once we are all here (economic policy incorporating a larger population narrative).
And that narrative gap is being held in place by generally conservative elements – the FIRE lobby to keep RE and subsequently investment banking as strong as can be, and the Mining lobby to sustain current demand and detract from any question of Australia’s longer term economic direction (and the possibility it would be less wedded to mining – and nothing else, not even processing of the mining wealth or using that mining wealth to produce a greater and wider economic benefit in Australia - i.e. gas for industry/energy)
stinkbug omosessuale Frank Castle is a liar and a criminal. He will often deliberately take people out of context and use straw man arguments. Frank finally and unintentionally gives it up and admits he got where he is, primarily via dumb luck! See here Property will be 50-70% off by 2016.
Now the questions are; how many crooks in the government do you know? Are you a community man or connected to any unions?? and more importantly do you have money or access to it?
The answers to the above will determine the fate of your venture.
You've left out the most important element - our environment. Our whole economy and our lives, depend on a healthy environment.
Agree with less immigration, mainly because this country is already over-populated (and over-polluted in many areas), and a larger population is not sustainable with the limited resources we have, especially clean water availability.
You have not mentioned forthcoming lack of cheap oil. We are especially vulnerable in Australia - lots of reliable data available on web. More expensive and scarcer oil will really crash your agenda - and everyone's.
No we need to open the country up not close it down. Peter :pop: I say open up immigration, it will brink economic activity to Australia. Japan made one (in my opinion) huge mistake, they steam rolled ahead. But let the human capital slowly die. If Japan had opened up their immigration policy they could have added the human energy to the great model they have. Anyway mistakes are made. Peter :pop:
I say open up migration, it will brink economic activity to Australia.
And where do you propose we put all these people? Our already over-crowded cities? If they were moving to the country areas it wouldn't be so bad, but how would you get them to move to these areas when there are no jobs?

I have just one thing to say about that sort of thinking.
