You really earn 375,000 per year? Congratulations, that's impressive.

And yes, it will keep going up. There is an arrangement where once a year the insurance companies submit their proposed premium rises to the government for review. They propose a 14% increase, and settle for a 7% increase. Insurance costs have risen at around double CPI for more than a decade and I don't see them changing that. Lots of long living baby boomers to care for unfortunately, and their care does not come cheap.
You are an idiot. You dont have to earn that much to pay $6000 a year for top health insurance for a family.

Yes I could pay less by down grading my insurance but as a Doctor friend told me, unless your paying for the TOP plans, your insurance is basically a get out of paying an additional tax for not having insurance card policy. You get very marginal benefits and most of your treatments will still be public.

I am also paying for my parents. I know of 2 elderly people who had health issues that the public system deemed were not life threatening. They were put on a waiting list and both died from their non life threatening conditions before they received treatment.

If they keep yanking up the price, the Private system will collapse way before the public system.

Silly question: Could a family sue under these circumstances assuming negligence could be proven?

Good luck with that. These 2 were like many elderly in Youth Fixated Australia. Alone with no family support living in a culture that resents treating the elderly.

I found the whole situation sickening and wont allow that to happen to mine.

Any notion that Aus has a "World Best" health system needs to be examined. Its not a Universal "World Best" health system like many foolishly believe.

If you have oldies and can afford to get them insurance, I highly recommend it.

i think 'youth fixated australia' is a bit of a long bow

the boomers are pretty well looked after

boomers that i see have a choice....pay that private health or wait years for non critical surgery eg hip replacement

and be out of hospital in 3-4 days after having that in a big public hospital

Clearly then the definition of non critical surgery needs to be looked at more carefully, as I know of 2 elderly people who died waiting.

you should wake up in the morning and do a little dance for the gift that is HECS/HELP. without it you'd be saddled with a massive debt that earns interest.

Maybe the government can set up a similar loan scheme for non essential ops, then the hip replacement recipients can do a little dance too?

i find it's worth seeing a good doctor even if you have to pay. my wife had ross river fever and some retarded bulk bill doctor tried to tell her it was PMS.

must have gotten her degree from hollywood upstairs medical school.
Maybe she is only a tradie doctor.

Did she recommend your wife brush her teeth with milkshakes?

about time

the amount of patients coming in with sniffles for their 'free' consultation is a waste

the fee should be increased to 20 bucks tho, and also apply to e.d depts, similar to nz

i know colleagues in the e.d who think that up to 30% of pts are non emergency cases

time to get real, health costs are spiralling up with the aging population

of course, pensioners are exempt as well as card holders, but they shouldnt be

it might mean one less pizza or pack of ciggies or tatts lotto ticket for the week
Most aliments are of the mind.
So a nice holidays by the beach.
Is all you need.
A soma a day keeps the Jimjams away.
