I blame it on the cheap Chardonnay from Aldi's and Dan Murphy's.

Fantastic value for everyday drinking! Fresh, lifted aromas of peach, melon and tropical fruit and a palate brimming with lively varietal flavour.

$2.85 in any six

$33.70 per case of 12
$2.99 per bottle

Good paying jobs though, even a guy holding a shovel gets $3,000 a week clear on one of these projects. The downside is after they got rid of the Unions the bikie gangs have moved in to extort money. Maybe Moops could get a job with them and up his pay?

East West Link protest bill tops $300,000

December 19, 2013 9:37AM

PROTESTS at an East West Link site have been called off for the day, as Victorians are hit with a huge bill for extra police to monitor the situation.

There was a large police presence at the work site today as the protest against the major project enterered its third day.
More than 60 police were monitoring about 100 protesters who created a human chain around one of the drilling sites on the corner of Westgarth and Brunswick Sts in Fitzroy.
But protest leader Anthony Main ended the demonstration because of to heat.
“We’ll retreat for today because of the heat that’s upon us,” Mr Main said.

It comes as Victorians are being hit with a huge bill for extra police needed to battle the small mob of protesters intent on stopping the project.

Victoria Police has provided 1395 officers in response to action across Melbourne since the protests. The bill to taxpayers is $336,000 and is expected to grow.

Before the protest was called off for the day, Mr Main told the mass community picket that it would be a "long fight".

"This is going to go on right through next year," Mr Main said.

"We know three-quarters of people want to see investment in public transport.

"People don’t want this tunnel."

He warned the Napthine Government: "The only thing you’ll be digging next year is your own grave."

Protesters are expected to return on January 4 next year."

Local residents fumed about the drilling.

$3 a bottle? Sounds better suited to making a molotov cocktail. :lol

Are you serious, $3k a week?

There's a video going around showing the cops, being a bit unnecessarily forceful.

I'm with the lefties in a sense, we should be having trains. But why don't they say that and sell it via the Greens? They'd get a lot more votes. Methinks they'd rather just snipe from the sidelines.

So fuck em. Smash em. Stick up the biggest unit blocks in the world asap! :lol

Don't knock it! Nice crisp taste when chilled (2013, a good year), beats the cask rubbish by far! Aldi's got $2.79 a bottle. A few days ago Aldi's was sold out and I had to pay an outrageous $2.99 at Dan Murphy's. Wulfie's little helper! I promise myself no more than half a bottle a night, but it gets broken!

A guy said he worked 12 hours a day 7 days a week and at reduced tax rate for the wife and kids, but he was walking with 3k. The bikies hog the jobs though and its hard to get in!

I only hope they're not cutting corners and no houses fall in!

Standards aren't what they what used to be when only proddys got government jobs. At least proddy's dot all the "i's".

Don't mess with VIC or QLD cops! :lol

Seriously I bet about 1/3 of the protestors are people from the neighbourhood.

All the others would be getting top price for their homes and would be running for the hills, I know I would.

They targeted Mel Gregson (the red head) a union official and apparently the protest organizer.

Police use force to remove protesters

Police use force to remove protesters

Police say they used "reasonable force" to remove a group of East West Link protesters who were preventing employees from entering a Melbourne construction company office.

A group of 60 people from the group Tunnel Picketers rallied against the road project in an organised protest outside the Lend Lease building on Wednesday morning.

Victoria Police Inspector Peter Ward said about 40 officers were on site and were met with resistance by the protesters.

He said officers moved in to enable access for the neighbouring Fujitsu workers and cafe staff.

"This morning we attempted to negotiate with the protest leaders but they firmly indicated that no one was going to be allowed into the building," Insp Ward told reporters.

"It's my opinion police used reasonable force to facilitate access to the building for workers.

"Unfortunately a small group of protesters were prepared to challenge police and not co-operate by not allowing Fujitsu workers into the building," he said.

Insp Ward said additional specialist police officers were on hand in case the protest got out of hand.

Protesters targeted the construction company as it is bidding for work on the East West Link tunnel.

Insp Ward said police adjusted their tactics to respond to the protest after a cafe owner told officers he wanted to trade.

Protest organiser Mel Gregson said before the protest that if the government was arrogant enough to proceed with construction they would be met with a mass community picket.

"We are demanding that Lend Lease pull out of this project," Ms Gregson said.

"This community is not going to allow billions of dollars to be wasted on a toll road and tunnel that won't reduce congestion.

"We want to see money invested into the state's public transport network."

Insp Potter said police expected to attend further protests in coming weeks and they were unsure of the tactics protesters may use.

Protester Anthony Main said police were aggressive and rough in the way they handled them.

"They were quite aggressive considering it was a peaceful picketline," Mr Main told reporters.

"There was no need for any force. Police came looking for a fight and tried to create a situation where there was contact with protesters."

Mr Main said some protesters had cuts and bruises and one man was taken to hospital after the back of his neck was stood on in the scuffle.

"Police attempted to cordon off the entrance and then used their critical incident response team to push people out of the way to create a barrier between the protesters," he said.

Bad tactics, when the protesters ran away the cops should have let them and maybe arrested them if they came back. Mostly it's counter productive to resist arrest, it's better to take complaints to a judge if you have some.
It's true, they got no excuse to not look into rail now that it's overflowing.

Government fixated on the costly east-west link

Completely ignored is the option of a rail line out to Doncaster, up the Eastern Freeway.

Job cuts budget carries political risk

Publc sector anger likely after it bears the brunt of Victorian budget pain with an additional 600 job cuts announced, says state political editor Josh Gordon.

WHERE it really counts, planning for big infrastructure projects, the government appears incapable of making a rational decision.

It is fixated on a determination to make the construction of the east-west link connecting EastLink to CityLink even though it is already floating the idea that in order to make it pay as a Public Private Partnership it would, for at least part of its length, put the road on stilts rather than underground and incorporate off-ramps to the city.
Metro has recieved a $2.19 million 'incentive payment' from the state government.

Putting the car before the hordes ... Melbourne needs another rail line, not another freeway. Photo: Craig Abraham

Putting most of the road above ground would save construction costs and the off-ramps would boost traffic and tolls as most traffic coming off EastLink wants to go to the city area rather than be swept out to the north-west suburbs.

It's a bit like shooting fish in a barrell for the cops dealing with these hippies. For the wharfies in Sydney they had to bring in ex military types with dogs.

Looks like a pretty good job being a cop these days. You get to wear state funded sunnies like all the cops in that video. :oo:

Bad tactics? Maybe. I think the Libs are counting on a default second term.

They'll probably get it too, Shorten has a stupid bulbous head with gold fish eyes and he's just more of the same old slimy Labor.

Well, it's a risky job. Somebody throws something and you lose an eye. The problem is they have to deal with some real low life's and it rubs off on them.

Affiliation: Socialist Party

Age: 27

Suburb: Collingwood

Occupation: Union organiser

Main priorities for Yarra: The only way to address issues like parking, rat running, traffic congestion and pollution is to invest in public transport. The Socialist Party successfully pushed for $100,000 to be put into a pro-PT campaign. This campaign needs to be expanded to ensure that the proposal for a Doncaster rail line is put right up on the State Government’s agenda.
