Does any one have a clue with WTF the is going on? Politicians? Economists? RBA? People on Forums? GOD?... Every week just contradicts the previous week.. Last week this great country was 'only' $500b in debt now Hockey saying $668 in debt (time to pay back our $900 people and a shit load more!!). RBA hints rates will be going up next year, (great for me as I just bought a place and was going to fix a portion of the loan for 2 years), now they reckon there will be one more cut, maybe 2 next year? Probably will still fix as they will change their mind next week saying there will be 4 rises, who knows???? So I did what any guy would do - have left my wife make the decision so I cant get the blame :)

Perhaps you missed the thread of timo's where...

In other words peter, what you experienced in 2008 was not a downturn, it was just a bump in 22 years of uninterrupted growth in Australia (Aside from Sydney (which is a shithole anyway)) and all the bad news is still to come.

If I was you I would start looking for a new line of work. There won't be many mortgages written in the decades to come the way the world is heading.
The frightening thing for me is knowing that you believe that dribble.

The dollar doesn't seem to agree peter. Still shaky.
Yep it's a little shaky, but it refuses to plummet as it would if things were in fact anywhere near as bad as what Timo, goldbug and MMM make out.

You find it hard to see over the horizon and the Himalaya's get in the way of your view. It's a problem for you I know.

I wish I got a dollar each time an economist called an imminent recovery. There have been so many of these calls over the past three years.

I wish I had a dollar for every time someone said the word "crash"

The word "crash" has truly been in a bubble.

putting aside the fact missing a thread of timo's leaves you a smarter person, I can predict every thread timo will ever post.

Fair point, Peter. Commentators on both sides tend to get a bit excited about such things.

I think we may all have to resign ourselves to much shorter and flatter economic cycles than we've had in the past.

GDP growth won't be returning to 4% anytime soon.

Australian Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Australian and global real estate markets and macroeconomics, including house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a property crash. Is there an Australian housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is the Australian property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices really rise forever? These are the questions we address on Australian Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators. Members may also discuss matters related to finance, modern monetary theory (MMT), debt deflation, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Ethereum and Ripple, property investing, landlords, tenants, debt consolidation, reverse home equity loans, the housing shortage, negative gearing, capital gains tax, land tax and macro prudential regulation.

Forum Rules: The main forum may be used to discuss property, politics, economics and finance, precious metals, crypto currency, debt management, generational divides, climate change, sustainability, alternative energy, environmental topics, human rights or social justice issues, and other topics on a case by case basis.
