Jennifer Duke: Am I overreacting to personal comments made on Australian Property Forum?; Should APF censor personal comments made about property industry members, or public figures?

Yes, gossip magazines base their whole business around the fact that people like to talk about and read about other people's appearance. Jennifer seems confused that people would want to discuss the appearance of people in the real estate industry, but the industry somebody works in is pretty much irrelevant to whether or not somebody else is likely to comment on their appearance. As soon as you are in the public eye, you will get comments on all aspects of your life. Women's Weekly and the like devote the majority of their magazine content to discussing the appearance, cellulite, fatness, anorexia, pimples, bad hair day etc etc of pretty much anybody who is in the public eye. And these magazines are mostly bought by other women.
And of course, a person's sexuality is also something that is very much commented on and discussed in the media. If someone 'comes out' it becomes big news. If they date someone, especially someone of the same gender, it is big news. If they get married, divorced, have an affair, have a baby etc. this is also big news. Even on APF, there have been frequent discussions about the sexuality and gender of several members...
It's naive to expect anything different from the human race.
I couldn't agree more Shadow. As a long time female lurker and huge fan of yourself and the others, I vote someone begins a new thread in the appropriate sub forum called "Australian Real Estate Wardrobe Malfunctions." Keep up the great work Australian Property Forum. You guys fill a niche market void in Australia that nobody else could touch!
Personal comments are designed to be hurtful & nasty, but it does depend on its context. Try not to take it seriously otherwise those who do attack get a satisfaction.. I do not not support vicious trolling & Internet bullying.
If I took everything personally on this forum, I wouldnt have lasted long, :-)... I have no fear to tell them where to go. I'm proud of what I've achieved in my life in property investing. I've been called "Barbie, Princess Perfect ..., rich pretty cxxx or you know how to use that mouth" in that big world beyond the Internet, it has been said in a very nasty way at times...
As I've said before people can be quick to assume & judge very very easily.
There's a lot of poo stirring but generally it's harmless & not malicious in nature.....
You can't win them all ..that's life....
Newjerk? can you try harder than dig up another person's blog. My first promo was with Billabong and my name in English is modified with a T, am Perth born but also lived in Sydney to make my $$ It's Absolutely Fabulous if it includes brilliant locations, & high calibre tenants..what more does one want? Understand the power of the two "P"" or be financially challenged Even better when there is family who are property mad and one is born in some entitlements.....Understand that beautiful women are the exhibitionists we crave attention, whilst hot blooded men are the voyeurs ... A stunning woman can command and takes pleasure in being noticed. Seems not too many understand what it means to hold and own props and get threatened by those who do. Banks are considered to be law abiding and & rather boring places yeah not true . A bank balance sheet will show capital is dwarfed by their liabilities this means when a portions of loans is falling its problems for the bank.
How do APF members feel, should I censor personal comments made about Jennifer Duke, other property industry members, or public figures?
This needs to be thought over carefully.................I suggest a Wolfman retreat?
But the fact that she wrote an article advertising the remarks technically means she agrees with them. So I wouldn't remove them.
If She purely contacted you and asked you to remove hurtful remarks, that would be fair. But instead she wishes to publicize it.....don't be played, Alex.

It must be nice being dumb. Then you can be proud of not much.
stinkbug omosessuale Frank Castle is a liar and a criminal. He will often deliberately take people out of context and use straw man arguments. Frank finally and unintentionally gives it up and admits he got where he is, primarily via dumb luck! See here Property will be 50-70% off by 2016.

I think you have a very valid point Count du Monet. I also believe Alex may have beat everyone in knowing what was happening here. The question I am now asking myself is 'are Jennifers employers entirely happy with the article she wrote on womensagenda.com.au?' Reputation is important in the digital age.
I find it revolting that anyone, especially a man, could refer to a woman as 'hot' or 'cute'. Men need to stop acting like barbarians and thinking about women's looks all the time. This isn't the stone age. Humans should have evolved beyond this primal fixation on the physical appearance of the opposite sex,
What planet are you from? I hear women all the time referring to men in the very manner you describe, commenting on their "Buff" body or their cute butts. This is the 21st century and the world is tired of these prudish elizabethan opinions you espouse, we have moved on.
If you don't like what you see and hear then move to an Amish community.
Shadow was hopelessly wrong about the Gold Bull Market. What else is he wrong about?

You mean the flashy cars they drive and smart suits they wear aren't just for the sake of appearance?
Actually Beckham did very well in the H& M underwear fashion marketing campaign, but those man muscles did not magically appear ..very fit & yummy man.
If he...or she is hot I say YUM...ooooohhhhhhhhhh come hither
Used to like Robbie Williams but he's porked up somewhat...
What's this got to do with property? Well they've made $$ in their clever lives...it's called marketing & promotion.
