My favourite 'pencil' story goes along the lines that when the great space race was on the Yanks decided they needed a fountain pen that would work in zero gravity - 'N after spending $20 m on research produced the biro; While the Russkies just kept usin' a pencil. :re:
Fucken bullshit it's been around since the late 30s. I thought it was a French guy but it was a Hungarian.

Frank Castle is a liar and a criminal. He will often deliberately take people out of context and use straw man arguments.
Frank finally and unintentionally gives it up and admits he got where he is, primarily via dumb luck!

prefer to go back just 60 years. stuff was modern enough to be comfortable, still plenty of scope to invent your way to riches and you could nail heaps of chicks without fear of getting AIDS.
i'm pretty damn sure i'm not the only one here who believes this was 'post of the day'
APF - a place where serious people don't take themselves too seriously. There's nothing else like it.

Fucken bullshit it's been around since the late 30s. I thought it was a French guy but it was a Hungarian.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballpoint_pen
"There is an old and oft-repeated rumour that because standard pens don't work in zero-gravity, Nasa spent millions devising a space pen, while the Russians used pencils.

But this has been debunked, not least because - strange to say - pencils pose dangers in space, from broken-off tips floating about and graphite and wood being flammable in a pure oxygen atmosphere. And it was not Nasa which developed the space pen, but inventor Paul Fisher, and it was adopted by both sides in the space race by 1968."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6173154.stm

Makes for a funny yarn though regardless of accuracy - 'N I know Russkies luv tellin' it.
Though it also struck me as amusing because $20 m probably wasn't 'much' in the big scheme of things.
So the Russkies' funny yarn about the Yanks always seemed like a potentially funny yarn about Russkies as well - But I just tend ta see the 'points' of both the biro 'n the pencil in funny yarns pretty often I suspect? ... :re:

'Course some days I just get out 'n out confused over all this shit anyway - As a kid I pretty much learnt the Brits 'n the Yanks ('n us) whopped Hitler's arse; Though as an adult I figured out it was actually Joe Stalin's mob what really kicked the shit out of the fucker ... :re:

Actually it was the shortage of oil that defeated the Nazis.

They 40 million barrels per year of conventional oil and about another 40 million barrels per year of synthetic.

Russia had about 180 million barrels per year. The British had about 140 million barrels per year. The Americans going over 1000 million barrels per year.

In 1944 Germany had a tenth of supplies required to train aircraft pilots despite producing enough planes. Essentially Germany was sending pilots into the sky with little training and was fighting with virtually no air power. The thousand jet fighters they had near the end probably would have shot the allied air forces out of the Sky if they had the fuel and the pilots. The Me 262 took an allied plane down everytime it took to the sky.

If the Nazi's had of taken the Stalingrad they probably would have won the war. By then they had ran out of their reserves and those of the countries they conquered. In terms of technology the Germans were ahead in just about every avenue.

Today Australia alone consumes the amount of oil that WW2 was being fought on.

Hopefully you realise the British, Americans and Russians prevented the Germans from getting more oil.

They also strategically targeted German oil supplies, refineries.

Saying "it was a shortage of oil that defeated the Germans" is like me saying "Actually it isnt me who is saying this. It is my keyboard."

You mean they secretly moved all the European oil fields somewhere else?

There was one significant oilfield in German dominated Europe.......Ploiesti in Romania, that was virtually all the natural product.

They could do that because due to the lack of oil the Germans couldn't supply the air-force required to oppose them.

Modern wars are not fought by the "me". They are fought with machines and are not about the person.

Unfortunately for the Germans, their emphasis on protection and gun power compromised the mobility and reliability of their tanks. In 1943, for example, Germany manufactured only 5,966 tanks, as compared to 29,497 for the US, 7,476 for Britain, and an estimated 20,000 for the Soviet Union.

Although the German destroying 5 allied tanks for everyone of their own they lost evened up the score a little.

It's Absolutely Fabulous if it includes brilliant locations, & high calibre tenants..what more does one want? Understand the power of the two "P"" or be financially challenged
Even better when there is family who are property mad and one is born in some entitlements.....Understand that beautiful women are the exhibitionists we crave attention, whilst hot blooded men are the voyeurs ... A stunning woman can command and takes pleasure in being noticed. Seems not too many understand what it means to hold and own props and get threatened by those who do.
Banks are considered to be law abiding and & rather boring places yeah not true . A bank balance sheet will show capital is dwarfed by their liabilities this means when a portions of loans is falling its problems for the bank.

You have a really weird way of looking at things.

If the Germans failed to get more oil, then they failed to get more oil. The oil didn't fail to get itself to the Germans. Oil doesn't think. It doesn't make decisions.

Machines and bombs don't think either. People are responsible for designing and making machines and using them and supplying them with fuel. And they are responsible for obtaining fuel.

Do you think that right before that bullet went into Hitler's brain it was thinking "You bastard oil! You turned your back on me! Now im going to enter this man's brain!"

Sometimes I wonder what I would do if I were sent back in time, say 400 years. What would I "invent" to make myself rich?

About the best I could come up with was the ball point pen.
I'd invent the child welfare system. "all care- no responsibility"

Its very profitable, puts you in contact with the largest criminal network in tyhe world (catholic church" and even when the worst failures comes to light, no one asks any questions about the child welfare sectors failures -.see royal computation into intuitional responses to child abuse, and this fascinating and very icky story.
